Show RYAN AND WILKS TO FIGHT. Germania Hall, South Omaha, is the Place of Tonight's Battle. Omaha, Neb., July 30. Nothing is talked about iu sportiug circles today but the finish fight which takes ; place tonight between Tommy Ryan of Chicago, the welter weight champion, and Jack Wilks, the St Louis j hurricane. There have been miners afloat for soma days among the backers of the Chicago man to the effect that he would not be giveu a fair show, but a little investigation Into the standing of the members of the Omaha Athletic club, uuder whose auspices the contest con-test comes off, has dispelled their fears, and nothing but good feeling prevails The mill will take place in Germania hall, South Omaha, that place being selected on account of the accommodating disposition of the authorities, who, it is said, are always open to argument when a "bit of a go" is on the tapis. His training has been conducted in the gymnasium of the Omaha Athletic club under un-der the mentorship of "Farmer" Burns, the wrestler. Wilks has trained on a farm near Sioux City under the care of Jack Davis, and those who have seen him recently give glowing accounts of his form. He is a tall, high boned, husky bruiser, and has the advantage of Ryan in both height and reach. Ryan is the more clever sparrer, but has a dangerous opponent in the St Louis hurricane. |
