Editor Howell, of the Atlanta Constitution, upon his return from the Chicago convention, wrote ex-President Cleveland that whatever mieht have been the difference among democrats as to who should have been nominated they had all been harmonized by the arbitrament of the national convention and he would receive the cordial support of the Constitution. In reply Cleveland Cleve-land thanks Howell for the assurance of his support and says among other things: "Honestly it seems to me the democrats who are not at this time loyal to the cause are recreant to their country. The personal advancement ad-vancement of men is nothing; the triumph of the principles we advocate is everything." every-thing." PEOPLE'S PARTY CONVENTION. One is Held in Pittsburg Today at Which a Ticket is Nominated. Pittsburg, Pa., July 30. The people's party of Allegheny county assembled in mass convention at Curry hall' early this afternoon, aud were called to order at 3 o'clock by Chairman C. A. Burrows of the committee on organization. The convention nominated a full county ticket and appointed a committee to confer with another similarly appointed committee from Washington county for the purpose of arranging another convention at which a congressional candidate for the 24th district will be nominated. The members of the people's party are confident of polling a heavy vote, and Thomas J. Rcney of Allegheny, secretary of the committee on organization, said this afternoon that while his party anticipated some difficulty in getting their ticket printed uuder the new law they wore confident confi-dent of success in the end. While tbey expected to draw their support sup-port from all parties they rely more especially espec-ially on the farmers and laboring classes, both union and non-union. The labor troubles, they say, will enable them to draw many votes from the mills, and will materially strengthen their cause throughout the country. They also count on gathering in the old greenbackers, and say that from all sources their vote in Allegheny county will be not less than 30,000, and possibly much greater. ILLINOIS PROHIBITIONISTS. Open an Encampment at Lithla Springs, Near Shelby ville. Shelbtville, 111., July 30. At Lithia springs, near this city, the prohibitionists formally opened their grand encampment today. Many of those who will be active in the work of next week have been on the ground for several days, and many of the visitors pitched their tents early in the week and have been enjoying a few days' outing preparatory to the active work of the gathering. gath-ering. An elaborate programme has been prepared pre-pared including a W. C. T. U. day, to be led by Mrs. Clara C. Hoffman, president of the Missouri state union. ' A day has also been set apart for the suffrage cause, nd one for tne editors, which will be devoted to adopting means to secure harmonious action on the part of the editors of the different reform organs.
