Stephens in the early part of last week called my attention to the prices for tin plate under sef-eral sef-eral dates before and after the patsaga of the McKinley tariff given In a Republican campaign cam-paign book, and asked me if the prices wene correct. I verified the price under the dates named by reference to our files of prices current, and taken in the week when the request came from Mr. Cannon for a statement of prices on goods in our line affected by the tariff. I Enclosed him the letter, using the figures on tin plate already found to be correct, giving the cost of wire nails in the Pittsburg market and comparative prices on cutlery, cut-lery, etc. Mr. Rawlins in his attempt by. Indirection to discredit the statement, forgets that thesa prices are not incidental to any campaign publication but make the record for the day's business In New York's import market, and that he could verify or disprove the statement by wiring to New York for the prices.
