Show KENT HELD TO ANSWER. J nstlce Kesler Fixes His Bonds in the Sum of $500. The preliminary hearing of Joseph Kent for shooting Alonzo Hendricks a few nights ago was began in police court this afternoon. The people was represented by Assistant County Attorney Eichnor while the defense was conducted by Mr. Riley of Riley & Kane. Hendricks was the first witness and testified testi-fied as to the shooting and the circumstances surrounding it. The facts were in the main as detailed in The Times. Officer Harry Ford tesiified that Kent asked him to go over and arrest a man. That he crossed over to Smith's cornor where Hendricks was standing and after saving "there's the man," fired at Hendricks. 'The witness took the weapon away from him and brought him to the station. The people's case was here rested and the defense, to everbody's surprise, declined to give any testimony. The court said that the evidence showed that the act was premeditated and held the defendant in the sum of $500 to the grand jury. Kent gave the bonds and is now at lib-erty. |
