The feature of the session was the report of the finance committee tixing a scale of salaries for the various city officials and their subordinates. The scale is as follows: City Auditor's Department Auditor at Xgm per year. City Recorder's Department Oue re-corder, per year; one deputy, $1200 per year; one clerk, $1000 per year; one clerk, $75 per month; one typewriter, $000 per year. Total, five employees at $('.100 per year, or SoOs.;;;):, per month. City Treasurer's Department One treas-urer, $ 100 per year ; oue deputy, $1500 per year; one license man, $1000 per year. Total, three men at $4'JO0 per year, or $408.33 per month. The pay roll of the tire department was adopted as submitted by the chief. It is but a nominal increase over Ihe old one. An extension of the lire limits of the city was recommended by the lire committee. The coramitti e on improvements recom-mended that in the matter of placing street signs the gas lamp posts be used ou the principal streets. On all Ibc business streets the -- igns are to be placed on diagonal cor- - ncrs, and the district to be covered is as fol-lows: From Eighth West street to the res-ervation on the east; from Fifth North to Ninth South; plat Tf, Seventh street to the reservation. Adopted. 'ihe following resolution was adopted after much deba.e: W 11 kukas. We recommend that it be de-clared the general policy of this council that the cost of bringing streets to a perma-nent grade aud improving the same shall be on the assessment plan, according to the ' law in force covering the work of paving and other ir provements. The committee on police submitted the following: WlfSKEAS, There are only eight regular police Officers on each shift, and a shift is eight hours; and, WhRREAS, The peace and good order of the city largely depends on the constant presence and vtpilance of the police, there-fore be it W. That the city marsl a be instruct-ed to require each officer to be in Constant march over his beat, except at such times as the duties of his office require his services iu other ways. Adopted. Adopted. A resolution was offered by Mr. Shnoudi to suspend the operation of the smoke ordi-nance that it might be detinilt ly demonstra-ted that natural gas was a success iu Ziou. Adopted.
