Show 2 THE SALT LAKE TIME FRIDAY, APRIL 15, 189U who are contemptuously referred to as "rustlers" by the big ranchers. These men have rights that ought to be pro-tected, and if the authorities of the sov-ereign state of Wyoming are not able to furnish that protection, what is more natural than to call on the United States for aid? TIIK W'Ali IN WYOMING. The "Rustler" war in Wyoming while, according to latest dispatches, almost at attend, has gotten iulu politics. The resolutions adoptod at tin; democratic state convention at Douglas yesturd.ty denounced the reptthiiean governor for calling for United States troops to aid in suppressing the war. There seems to :is to bv. a good deal of buncombe alom these resolutions. Why should the authorities ol" the state of Wyoming allow the big cattlemen and the "rustlers ' to make bloody battle grounds of the more remote parts of the state? As far as we can understand the situ-ation, there is right on both sides. The "rustler," as the term was origin-ally used, was a thief. lie started in a ' penniless adventures, and gaiheriug in the stray cattle, mavericks, etc., put a brand of his own on them, iu time he gathered together the nucleus of quite a little herd, aud then he quit stealing and, taking up a ranch, beeams a small cattleman. Among the men classed as "rustler" however, are many small cattlemen who were never thieves. They claim that the big rauchers are autocratic be rond endurance. That they gobble up ill their cattle; that they are deter-mined to drive the small ranchers out f business and ruin them. Hence the trouble. While oattle thieves deserve no sym pathy, there are many Innocent men ' 8(7thF TliS PUBLISHING COMPANY. '. The former yesterday decided that it was useless to put any ticket in the held. Not so with the republicans of the Lone Star state. In spite of the fact that their cause would seem to be a hopeless one, they put a full state ticket in the tiold and will at least do their duties as citi-zens by going to the polls and voting for their principles.
