"There .were 4000 acres of beets planted in Nebraska last year, 2000 in Utah, 6000 in California. Every licensed li-censed producer of sugar from beets, sorghum or sugar cane is required to provide at his own expense, a book in which shall be entered daily the quantity quan-tity of material used for the production of sugar, the quantity of juice obtained, and its average density, the quantity of syrup purchased and its average density, densi-ty, with name and add -ess of persons from whom purchased, the number of hours the mill was in operation the quantity of sugar in pounds of each grade produced and packed, with the number and kind of packages, and the serial number of the same; the quantity of sugar shipped, sold, or removed for storage, consumption or sale, and the name of the person to whom shipped, sold or disposed of." ItKKT SI GAlt. Internal Kevenuo Commissioner JIa-pox JIa-pox in his report discusses the growth of the beet sugar industry at considerable consid-erable length.. The following are the most interesting of his observations: 'The bounty granted to the manufacturers manufac-turers of sugar under the act of October 1, 181)0, the admission free of duty of beet sugar machinery until July 1, 1802. and the encouragement given by the department of agriculture in the experiments ex-periments for the benefit of farmers and the aid given by different states, will doubtless have the effect of stimulating stimu-lating the industry in this country.
