Carothers, for years at the head of the colored alliance, is out in an open letter to his people warning them against the Umphrey scheme of demanding de-manding exorbitant prices for cotton picking. He urges tho negroes to live in harmony with the white farmers, alleging the closely interwoven interests inter-ests of the two classes and the danger of stirring up strife. He adds tbu at present prices cotton planters cannot afford to pay au advance. |
