A special dispatch from Washington to the Commcixial A'hrr-txtr A'hrr-txtr says. "Secretary Blaine last night informed in-formed Senor Moutt, the Chilean representative represen-tative at Washington, that this government will insist upon reparation for the insults of Chile, and that w e are prepared to exercise force, if necessary, to secure, it." The Pout says the gentleman in this city who was informed yesterday of the demand of Chile for the recall of Minister Egan says he has received today an authoritative dispatch dis-patch from Washington announcing that Blaine" promised Senor Montt that the Cnited States legation would be put in charge of its secretary next Monday. ; The Chileau trouble, shows its effect at the Brooklyn navy yard iu the renewed activity being displayed in fittingout the vesselsnow there. The number of ruau engaged upon the monitor Miantonomah has been increased and from couversat.on with her officers it u learned she could be got ready for sea within ten days if occasion should require it. he is classed by all otfieers as the most formidable formid-able ship ia the navy, and if necessary she could be in Chileau waters within two months. A rumor got abroad yesterday that an or-dr or-dr had been sent from Secretary Tracy to the Brooklyn navy yard to have three sbip sail as soon as possible for Chile, but Captain Cap-tain Erben, commandant of the navy yard, denied that be had received such orders. It is learned that the three ships, Philadelphia, Concord and Kearsargc are being prepared to leave on Tuesday for the WestTndies. A ship in going frouTXew York to Chile generally gen-erally makes her first stop at St. Thomas, so it is possible that there may be some connection con-nection between the rumored orders from Washington, and the departure of these three ships. "Su far as known there were no further exchange of dispatches between be-tween this government and its representatives representa-tives in Chile. Senor Montt, the Chilean minifter at Washington, desires to state upon information informa-tion in his possession that the reports published pub-lished recently of tb11 feeling between the Chilean people ar,dUlt; Americans dornicilcd-".ehoug dornicilcd-".ehoug thcru were Jensational and absolutely absolute-ly without fouudatiifi; in fact, he holds that the Baltimore inc'u!(f.nt was unduly magnified, magni-fied, and sees uo reason to doubt that a settlement set-tlement of the questions at. issue between the governments of Chile and the United States will be reached in a manner honorable honor-able to both sides. |
