Sometime last night the most horrible tragedy ever enacted en-acted in this section of Nebraska occurred. occur-red. This afternoon Mrs. Dr. Allen of Beatrice, came to Ellis on a visit to her brother, John H. 1'uterbaugh, who lives a milo and a half south of town. She was driven to the farm by Louis IVttiug, and knocked at thetloor-I thetloor-I nit. received no response. Thjy en, tered, the door not being locked, and found a horrible state of affairs. Her brother was lying on tho lloor, his face covered with blood, and in bed was his wife with a bullet through her head In the bed with her was a two-year old baby also shot through the head. On a lounge in the room was another bed occupied by two young girls, one thirteen thir-teen and one fifteen, bolh dead with bullet bul-let holes in their heads. How they met their terrible fato is yet unknown. The general belief is that the terrible deed was the work of the husband and father. The facos of the tleati, although covered with blood were as calm as though sleeping. sleep-ing. All seemed to have beou killed while sleeping, aad were shot directly through the skull. . J'uterbaugli was not a drinking man. He suffered from the grip last spring, and since then has not been in the laar.t of health. It is thought he killed his family and suicided. |
