From the top of the organ a great star of colored lights shoae. The opeuing piece, Obcron overture was executed on the great ' organ by 'rof. Thomas RadcliUe in bin masterly tyle. Tbe chorus "Hail, liright' Abode" by the Choral society, organ, string quartette and piano was excellent. This chorus is dillicult but the -100 voices rendered it well. "The Two Grenadiers," a baas solo by Myron W. W hitney, was grand, llw magnificent voice told the story with distinctness and ellcct. The words sang were different from those on the programme, but tho story was tho ante. Mr. Whitney sang for encore . "Who Treads the I'atli of Duty." There are few voices suited to this fine creation, crea-tion, it being one of thu best bas solos ever u i itteri. lie executed the deep notes with admirable ell'ect. Mrs. Lizzie Thomas Kdward and Mr. George 1). l'yper rendered with much sweetness the duo "(.), Love Forgive," from La Traviata. Mies Thursby's voice was in splendid condition. Her rendition of "Thou Charming Bird," with fine accompaniment accompani-ment by Sergeant Pickett, captured the audieuco. She is aa artist and pos-' pos-' lesses a finely cultivated voice. Her encores were impressive. The "Lost Chord" by tho Apollo club was a creditable performance. In "I Too Have Dreamt" It. C. Fasten Fas-ten exhibited his tine tenor voice to advantage. ad-vantage. His encore "Annie Laurie" was tine. The audienco was pleased with the execution of the "Waves of the Danube" by the Spanish Mandolin and Guitar club. Miss Lily Snyder, Miss Viola Pratt, Mr. K. C. Kaston, Mr. G. D. l'yper, Mr. II. S. Goddard and Mr. ). D. Spencer composed the sextetto that rendered "What from Vengeance." This was one of the most refrehing features of the evening. Miss Snyder's clear voice was charming. She is one of the must ambitious singers in the west aud some day the world will know her. Willard Weihe is an artist on the violin vio-lin and tho general applause he received re-ceived showed that he is away up in the estimation of the muiio loving people of this city. Miss Thursby's closing selection from Wignou was artistic. The solo and chorus "Crowned With the Tempest ' was grand. The part in the opera is baritone and Mr. Whitney's Whit-ney's powerful voice was heard with great elfect aud volume. Tho matinee this afternoon was well attended. The closing concert tonight promises to be grand. |
