Show Water for Eastern Colorado. Holyoke News. The lack of water in June and July defeats most of our farmers in their cropping. They have pre-empted a TtTJr large body of land in eastern Colorado and paid into the United States land oflice hundreds of thousands thous-ands of dollars therefor. Now, as a large part of their lands are unsold, it seems but just to the people and to the government that some aid be rendered to furnish water to irrigate these lands. To do so will speedily raise the price of the unsold lands, so that no loss will be effected, and the people will thus be enabled to aid in commerce and trade by returns from their labors. Otherwise Other-wise they will have to abandon their lauds and seek homes elsewhere. It is possible in some way to effect the object ob-ject and make this county what it has done for Weld, Morgan and other counties coun-ties in tho state. Ihe Union Facitio and Burlington and Missouri railroad companies are taking a lively interest in this project, but they cannot do all that is required to be done. Work on wells, reservoirs and ditches will give employment to many of our people here, aud aid them in holding their lands and improving them. Our American Amer-ican people never say "I can't," but we can do anything when opportunity is given us. Our congressmen and state legislatures, as well as tho people should take immediate action in getting the work commenced and pushed to completion, com-pletion, or else the country will be left dosolate, and the farms go back to grass and weeds. A greater work than this can hardly bo conceived of, and the sooner commenced the sooner done. |
