Senator Aid-rich Aid-rich and most of the republican senators sena-tors were completely surprised at the action of the senate in laying aside the closure resolution and taking up the apportionment bill. There was no expectation ex-pectation of any important vote, and one republican senator was absent attending at-tending to department business when the vote was taken, and it was With difficulty dif-ficulty that a pair was arranged for him. Senator Stanford was absent and unpaired. The future course of events depends largely upon him, as Aldrich says, if Stanford agrees tosup-poit tosup-poit the rule, he will ask the senate to resume its consideration immediately. The Post says .senators Aldrich and Stewart, whose statements in reference to Senator Stanford's position are radically rad-ically different, left last evening for New York to see Stanford.
