Show RKAL KSTATK MATTERS There Was a Large Attendance This Morning at the Real Estate Exchange. LOTS OF MONEY TO LOAN. A Eabuking Telegram Sent the Proprietors Proprie-tors of the "lllustratod American," The exchange meeting this morning was well attended. There was plenty of cold cash offered at 10 percent, but takers were among the missing. In fact, the supply of loans is daily increasing and the borrowers bor-rowers are few. Messrs. Tousey & de Ricqles want forty to one hundred acres of land near the stockyards. In the absence of Secretary II. V. Meloy the work of the meeting was recorded re-corded by John Montgomery, jr. The following telegram has been sent by the real estate exchange to the publishers of the Illustrated American, the New York journal, which recently printed an article injurious and unjust about Salt Lnke city: "The Salt Lake real estate exchange, representing over $50,000,001) of new investment in Utah terri- 1 tory and composed of all classes of religious belief, respectfully respect-fully and earnestly protest against the 1 publication of the series of articles calculated cal-culated to inspire belief iu a coming war between tho United States and the Mormon church, two of which articles entitled, "Exterminate the Mormons," and "Will the Mormons Fight?" ap- 1 peared in your issue of December i'7, 1800, as calculated to prejudice the future fu-ture of Utah and destroy contideuce in u:., ..e-llH : : this rapidly growing region. The best gentile minds in Utah agree I that there is no more danger of the 1 breaking out of a war between the gov-ernmeul gov-ernmeul and the mormon church, than there is that the methodints of New York City will riso and massacre the presbyterians of that city. 1 doubt if you can find among the quarter of a million people of Utah one person who , will adopt tho fear you so emphatically i express. I In the interest of honest journalism, if for no other reason, out of a disposition disposi-tion to be a just and truthful expouant of public opinion and to use your own expression that you may "exist by the good will and co-operation of the citizens citi-zens of this great nation" you ought not to continue the publication of so outrageous a misrepresentation misrep-resentation of the people of Utah. Gentile, Jew and mormon alike protest against your attempt to defeat their united efforts to induce immigration to this favored section of 1 our own common country." I II. C. Lett.
