Show NEVADA NOTES. A scheme is on foot to cut up large tracts of land in Mason Valley into 40 and 80 acre farms and organize a colony. The Elko Independent has been loased for one year by W. W. Booher, late principal of the public schools at that place. Under tho new apportionment Elko county will have one senator and three assemblymen in tho legislature which will be composed of fifteen senators and thirty assemblymen. It is reported that there aro four car loads of narrow gaugo railroad iron at Battle Mountain, destined for the Carlin and Boise railroad, the iron having been taken up from an old road mar there. At Skeleton, in the Mound Valley, Mr. G. T. Settle, while excavating for a levee, unearthed a mammoth foot, supposed to be of the ostrich species. It was found about eight feet below the surface. Tho entire length of the limb from tho joint to the end of the middle toe is six feet nine inches; the length of the toes are respectively !(, 7 aiid 6) inches each.
