The Woman Suffrage 'association of Utah territory convened at 10 o'clock this morning in Assembly hall, it being an executive session preceding the ses-sion open to Ihu public at 2 p. m. The meeting was an important one, the officers of the association, both city and territorial, being present prepared for making t heir reports. Here are held the services of the Mormon ctuiroh, and these are attended every Sunday by immense congregations of people, both Mormon and Gentile, The structure is oval la shape, seventy-fiv- e feet high and SHxl50 feet in length and breadth. It has a seating capa-city of 12.000 people, and here may be heard what Is claimed to be the finest organ In the world. Pattl once sang In the tabernacle, and demonstrated that Its acoustic powers are very tine. The Oardo House, or Amelia Palace, was built by Brlgnam Young whe willed that it should be the residence of his favorite wife, Amelia Folsoxn Younit. but since his death It has been used as the official residence of dignitaries of the church. These are situated In what was once Brlgham Young's domain, all of which has passed Into other bands, save the large lot In which la Brlgham Yonng's Grave. This can be reached by passing through the Eagle Oate, au archway in the old mud wall which at one time encompassed Brlgham s pri vate property. This Institution Is situated on South Temple street, directly opposite Temple square. It contains a large number of Interesting curios-ities, chiefly pertaining to the early history of Utah. ' Tbe Tithing BuUdlng possesses interest as being the general depot for taxes collected by the Mormon church from Its disciples. Liberty Park, In the southeastern portion of the olty is a beautiful resort and can be reached by rapid transit trains. The Chamber of Commnroe, on Second South street, Is visited by those who take an interest in the commercial standing of the city. There are several large cases con-taining specimens of Utah's mineralogy which attract much attention. Salt Luke Theater being selected. This latter place ef amuse-ment was built by Brlgham Young over thirty years ago. It Is a large and beautiful temple and is comfortably arranged. Assembly Hall, near the temple, Is used in winter far worship by tbe Mormons, the tabernacle being too large to admit of proper heating. Assembly hall U 190x118 feet, and cost f,l&0.000. The celling Is dec-orated with church pictures, among them tho Angel Moroni disclosing the hiding place ef the golden plates to Joseph Smith. The Natatorlum Is a large circular bathing house, the center of which, under a glass roof, is a swimming pool. The water is brought in pipes trO Beck's Hot Springs. There are also a large number of bath rooms. Kleotrlo Street Cars connect with every point of Interest in the city. The system is new and the appointments good. Rapid transit is assured. Camp Douglas, three miles east of the city and over 400 feet above it, Is beautifully laid out In the midst of lawns and orchards, and the barracks aud houses of the officers are built of stone. The post commands a wide view of the city and beyond where Great. Salt Lake lies like molten silver ai toe loot ui mo weasero mountains. Beck's Hot Spring are tn the northern part of the olty about three miles from the business center. They Issue from the base of the mountains, and are regarded as a very valuable aid in cases of rheumatism, dyspepsia and scrofula. The waters are used both in-ternally and externally, and there la an excellent bath house and necessary appointments for the comfort of patients. Tbe Warm Sulphur Springs are betweene Hot Springs and the city, about one mile fro the postoitice. There Is a good hotel and comfortable bath house In connec-tion with the springs, and they can be reached by street railway. The Mountains are unsurpassed in magnificent canyons, and at least a doaon of the grandest are within reach of the elty. These Invite the tourist to spand days, weeks or months among their wild reoesses to fish, to hunt, 'to scale the peaks and ridges, and to gather wild flowers by the sides ot mossy springs, beneath the shade ot umbrageous pines. Big Cottonwood canyon Bhoiud be seen by every tourlBt. Here are lake Mary and Martha from which flows the turbulent Cottonwood river; and at the base of the mountains are lakes Blanche, Florence and Lillian. Besides these are Mills creek. Parley's, F.intgration, and City Creek canyons, all extremely picturesque and delightfully romantic. ricasant Drives abound In scores around the outskirts of the city; aloug the quiet country roads, and through the lanes dividing meadows of rich green alfalfa and fields of grain; while the majestic mountains are never entirely lost eight of. From under the branches of trees and above hedges ot the wild dog-ros-glimpses are caught of snow. covered peaks. A Fort Douglas, aud then a mile further on to the mouth of Emigration canyon is most delightful. It was here that the sight of the Mormon pioneers was first made glad by the vast expanse of Salt Lake valley sud-denly bursting upon them, on the Mth ot July. IB47. The Great, Salt Lake. "I think" says Ernest Ingersoll, "few per- sons realise how wonderfully, strangelv beautiful this Inland sea is," and speaking of Its sunsets Phil Robinson has said: "Where have I not seen sunsets, by land and sea in Asia. Africa, Europe and America, aud where can I say I nave ever seen more wonderous coloring, more electrifying effects than in tho sunset on the Great Salt Lake of Utah." Salt Lake b as beautiful a sheet of water as can be found anywhere. The waves are a bright blue or green, and as they dance on Its surface it would be hard to tell which color prevails. It Is dotted with beautiful islands, and it affords Uie finest salt water bathing in the world. Garfield Beach Is within easy distance of the city, being but eighteen miles of a ride by train. Here is found every luxurv and comfort for a dip la the mysterious sea, and also all the things nec-essary for the comfort of the inner man. The cafe affords enjoyable meals at reasonable prices, and row boats are to be had for a quiet Inptuelrle"stonfotrhe waters whlchpossess a romantic every visitor. The management ot tbe accommodations at Gartleld Beach 's under the direction of the Union Pacific Rail-way company, aa is that at Lake Park under the snperr lslon of the Rio Grande West- ern. This reaort Is north ot the citv, about half way between Salt Lake and Ogde'n. and is much freqnealad by visitors, it is similar In fftracUveW tiarleld, and is well weriaj .'. THE SCHOOL BOARD. Cost of Oporatlns the Schools for a Single Year. The school board met last night in regular session with President Scott in the chair and Messrs. Tike, Nelson, Pyper, Young, Newman, Colbath and Johnson in attendance. The matter of books for indigent stu- - dents was referred to tho committee on 6chool work. The following standing committees were recommended. A committee on rules, consisting of three members. A committee on sites, consisting of ' three members. A oommittee on school buildings, con-sisting of three members. A committee on school furniture, con-sisting of three members. A committee on general supplies, consisting of three members. A committee on teachers, consisting of three members. A committee on school work, consist-- ' ing of five members. A committeoon finance, consisting of five members. Also, that the whole board constitute a committeo on visitation to visit the ' schools. Action on the report was deferred until the next regular meeting. It was explained that the delay in the ' deeding ot school property was occa-- ' sioned by examinations of deeds. Tho proposition from T. W. Jennings to present the board with two school lots was refeircd. It was ordered that the building ad-joining school building NTo. 4 be put in .' condition for occupancy. It was ordered on recommendation of Mr. Colbath that the school buildings be allowed for political primaries and other public uses when it was not inter-- . foring with school work. Several new janitors wero appointed consisting of J. A. lJorlhmau, A. lint-teno- n and P. L. Squires. The finance committee was authorized to overdraw at tho bank when occasion required it to meet expenses. Thetreas- - urer was also authorized to pay $i000 on contract for tho Fourteenth ward school building. The finance committee also reported that the board was without money on hand and that a deficit existed. This would be remedied, however, in an ac-- ! tion against Collector Hardy. The estimated expenses per annum ' was placed at $U1, 017.18. Tho hoard voted to increase tho sal-ary of its clerk, Mr. Moreton, to $12(5 per month. On motion R. W. Selection of a County Delegation to the Territorial Conveution, It was after delays that are inaliena-bly associated with political institutions that the People's convention got down to business yesterday and forced itself beyond the jurisdiction of the afternoon dailies. Tho convention, which was for the selection of delegates to the territorial convention which is to be held on Tuesday next, was called to order by Hon. F. S. Richards, after which Richard W. Young was chosen temporary chairman and C. L. Borry secretary. On motion a committee of five, con-sisting of John G. Smith, T. V. Wil-liams, Richard Howe, E. U. Holding and Fergus Coalter, was appointed on credentials. There being no contesting delega-tions, the committeo ratified the cre-dentials as presented to it, and tho se-lection of delegates being loft to each precinct, the following nominations wore announced: First precinct J. 11. Paul, John G. Smith. Second precinct David McKonzie.J, II. Moylo. Third precinct J. W. Summerhnvs, J. 8. Tingey. Fourth precinct It. W. Young, II.M. Wells. Fifth precinct O. S. Clawson, T. V.
