Anbury Hurley, about 2'J years old, attempted to blow his brains out last evening because be-cause Miss Delia Vichtcr refused to elope with him. Miss Vichtcr is about 18 years old, and has been staying at tho Saratoga houso in this place for a few weeks. Hurley, who enjoys the distinction of being hn tirst child ever born in Asbury Park, and who is employed em-ployed at ono of tho business houses here, met her a short time ago. His visits to the hotel began to bo very frequent, fre-quent, until Miss Vichtcr often denied herself to him when ho called. Last ..veiling he called on her. She soou discovered ho had boon drinking drink-ing and she endeavored to treat hini as nicely as she could, so as not to havo any words with him. After being in an outer room with her for a short time, the youthful lover proposed that they go off and get married. mar-ried. She refused to comply. The lover then drew a rev olver and threatened threat-ened to blow out his brains unless she consented to comply with Ids ropiest. The brandishing of the revolver did not have the desired effect, for tho young lady did not get frightened. Hurley then tired at his own temple, emptying three chambers of the revolver, but without effect. The report of tho revolver re-volver brought the gnosis of tho hotel to tho scene. The revolver was taken from Hurley's hand, and ho w as soon in the hands of the police, w ho placed him in the lock-up pending a hearing. Miss Vichter's relatives are in Pennsylvania. Hurley's parents are well connected here. |
