The audience which assembled last night in the Salt Lake theater enjoyed the opera soiree by Signor Carapbello. The orchestral overture was excellent. excel-lent. Signor Campbello and Miss Grace Porter rendered a duet from tho opera of "Kigoletto" which was applauded ap-plauded warmly. Mr. H. S. Krouse Rare a piano solo. Miss Porter showed the power of her voice in La Traviata, "Ah Forse Lui." Signor Campbello appeared in costume and rendered an air from "The Barber of Seville" which was loudly applauded. Miss Martha Koyle gracefully executed a seloction from the opera of "Mignon" and hor full, rich voice captured the audience. The balance of the program was pleasing. pleas-ing. The beauty of Miss Tortcr'a voice bo-came bo-came evident in the higher register, which is clear, strong and pure. At the close of the air from La Daniata she gave an E flat with power and accuracy, as also again in the duet Pronta is son she sang a staccato passage, reaching the high F easily. This brought forth universal recognition of her vocal powers. There are few sopranos now who sing easily to high C, and when we find a voice capablo of reaching F in alt. it is one of unusual rauge, and when these notes are sympathetic it becomes invaluable. |
