Show IN MEMORY OF COETHE. X Statute to the German Poet to bo ravelled ra-velled at I'hiladclehia. riHLAIiELPHIA, Sept. ail. Special. The monument to the (ierman poet Goethe was placed in position in West Fairmotint park today ready for the unveiling ceremonies, which take place next week. It occupies a position on Fountain avenue, west of Horticultural hall. It stands opposite and facing the Schiller statue, fur which it was intended intend-ed as a companion picture. A tablet on the front of the pedestal bears the inscription: in-scription: "Dedicated by the Germans of Philadelphia, A. D. J!0." 1 he poet is represented as standing ir a commanding com-manding attitude, as though about to address an audience, with head bared, the right foot thrust a little forvvanl, a roll of manuscript in his right hand, and the left raised to the breast auit grasping the edge of tho coat. |
