' Shamoy Leather. t Shamoy or wash leather, properly chamois leather, is so called because Originally and when of the best quality tt was made from the chamois or wild joat inhabiting tho Alps and Pyrenees. It is now made chiefly from the skin of ieer, goats and sheep. It is essentially listinguished from other kinds of leather n eing dressed with oil without salt, dura or tan, and in the grain being taken iff.
