Kobert Pitcairu, of Pittsburg, Pa., superintendent of tho Pittsburg division divis-ion of the Pennsylvania railroad, is in tho city. He is taking a short vacation in the west, and will spend some days viewing the sights of Zion. Mr. Pitcairn is one of tho best known railroad men in the country. He has charge of tho most important division of the iinest railroad in tho United States.' Ho made for himself a reputation reputa-tion that is a broad as this country, by the prompt and vigorous manner iu which he pulled the Pennsylvania railroad rail-road together, just after the' great Johnstown flood of one year ago. The Pennsylvania railroad is not only the most complete in every detail in the country now, but is every day making extensive improvements. Plans have been prepared for tho elevation of the company's tracks through the cities of Pittsburgh and Allegheny. A grand union depot, to cost half a million, will also be built at Pittsburgh, to take the place of the temporary utrurture which was erected after the burning of the depot by the strikers in 1877, and w hich has ever since done duty as a union depot. |
