The public in general, but more particiv Iarly that class interested in foreign mi aionary work, experienced a mingled shock of indignation and sorrow when a brief cable dispatch announced recently the murder mur-der of Missionary Large and the wounding of Uis wife by native assassins at Tokio, Japan. Moil advices, just at band, give details ct the tragedy. The Bev. Mr. Large was a preacher of the Methodist church, aud held the position posi-tion of assistant instructor of divinity in a large native school at Tokio. After be and his wife bad retired one night their quarters quar-ters were invaded by two masked robbers, who bound the watchman and in the subsequent sub-sequent struggle with the awakened missionary mis-sionary stabbed him to death. Mrs. Large, who attempted to save her husband, received re-ceived dangerous sword wounds, but will recover. The miscreanU, evidently Japanese Jap-anese of the lower class, escaped, but afterward one of them fell into the hands of the police. Mr. Large was born in Can ada in 1S59. |
