Tho otlicial activity iu molesting the Jews has not abated in tho least. The modifications proposed in tho original project embraced em-braced two provisions, one in favor of the Jews and two against them. The favorable alteration is to abolish tho tifty verst limit of exclusion from the frontier district and to allow Jews to live along the border. The other two proposeif alterations an to confine Jewish artisans to the limit of residence, like other Jews not being members of the first gild of merchants and to enforce en-force the same restriction against Hebrew He-brew apothecaries who have hitherto enjoyed the same privilege as university univers-ity and medical students of the persecuted perse-cuted race. The proposition against the artisans, who have up to the present been allowed in all towns while practicing practic-ing their trade, has been brought forward for-ward before, but the other two are new. |
