Show The Spanish Queen's Favorite. Queen Christinas favorite is the Duchess Duch-ess of Alba Nor can any one be astonished aston-ished at the predilection shown by her majesty for this distinguished lady. Mana Alba is the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Feman-Niunez She married when very young the Duke of Alba, and though she has had many children she still retains the appearance of a young girl. She is tall and slim and not by any means pretty, yet no woman at the palace looks so much like a grand dame, whether at a eourt ball, when, in full court dress, with a fortune in diamonds dia-monds crowning her plain, braided black hair, or whether at Biarritz, where in July and August she wears her pretty, girlish, summer costumes. She has received re-ceived a splendid education, and can enter into conversation on almost any subject. She speaks to her children always al-ways in English; her eldest boy. in fact, is a peer of Scotland by right. The home of the duchess in Madrid is a beautiful place more like an old English mansion in a large park than anything else. Cor. Kansas City Journal. |
