Show SERVED Til MI KiliUT. Dishonest Bank Officials Musi Sutler tho Penalty. Chicago, April 12. Tho Times, Dubuque, Du-buque, la., special: It has leaked out that the United States grand jury, which was discharged Wednesday night, found indictments against President K. E. Graves and Cashier C. II. Harris of the defunct Commercial bank, which failed for $500,000 in March, 1888. President Pres-ident Graves is indicted on two counts, one of over drawing accounts when ho had no means of making restitution, nnd another of falsifying the accounts of tho bank in carrying as assets chums which had been condemned as worthless, worth-less, and in classifying overdrafts as demand de-mand loans. It is claimed that President Presi-dent Graves had overdrafts of $7000 or $8,000. Graves had $8000 for some time before ho left the bank. Cashier Harris, Har-ris, who is indicted as an accomplice of Fresidout Graves, is now running a bank in Arizona, and is also cashier of the First National bank at Pueblo, Col. Tho,, indictments caused much ejeitc-Hieut ejeitc-Hieut here. Tho prosecution is being pushed by a syndicate of bankers who had claims against tho Commercial bank. ' . |
