' The report of the city recorder on the publication of notices' to extend the water mains, of thirteen petitioners as heretofore granted, on motion of Mr. Hall was adopted. The city engineer called the attention of the council to the necessity of immediately grading South Temple street to conform with the established grade and cement walks now being constructed, and also asks for an assistant assist-ant draughtsman in hisofiire by June 1. The city recorder was instructed to advertise for bids for. flagging crosswalks cross-walks on South Temple street. The committee on irrigation in .the case of numerous property owners on Capitol hill to use City creek water, recommend re-commend that the city council take no action in the case. The street committee recommended that' ' the petition of John E. Doolcy and others that thc Utah Central railroad construct a truss bridgo at the intersection of Seventh South and Tenth East streets. The report re-port was adopted. The same committee on the petition of 'John C- Maekey and seventy-live others to grado the Redwood road west of the Jordan, recommended that the same be referred to tho city recorder to confer with tho county court and take final action. The cominitte on lire department recommended that a new lire house be erected on the property adjoining thc present quarters at an early a date as possible. The estimated cost of the proposed building is $8000. Tho report was adopted, and on motion, the mayor was authorized to advertise for bids tor tho period of twelve days. -"The" committee on police reported favorable in the case of F. M. McKeiion, an applican for the position of police to fill vacancy, and recommended his appointment, ap-pointment, which was made, Tho committee on water works recommended that the several petitions for water extensions be granted, and the reports were adopted. The finance committee, ou a communication com-munication from the Utah commission in regard to Sunday expenses connected con-nected with their duties, recommended that the same be paid out of the engineer's engin-eer's fund, under the supervision of the mavor and auditor. On an application of A. B- Schroder asking for a franchise to erect and maintain an electric light plant in the city, the committee recommended that the same be not granted.
