Show TIIK CITVH FINANCES. A Clear Statement of the Resources and Expenditures of the Municipal Government. THE COST OF IMPROVEMENTS. Figures for tho Month of April Show Results of s Very Satis-faotory Satis-faotory Nature. When the present municipal authorities authori-ties came into oflico last February there was found in the treasury tho sum of $256,180.72. About three-fourths of this amount had resulted from the sala of city lots, and the balance was made up of iiucxpondod cash. In 1887 the city, under legislative enactment, was authorized au-thorized to issue bonds to the amount of $500,000. Of this sum bonds have leen placed, principally in London, to tho oxtcnt of $450,000, leaving the city in a position to place $30,000 more at auy time when necessary. These .bonds run ten years with the privilege of extending ex-tending the time to twenty years, at tho option of the city, and the interest in-terest thereon is five per cent, pay-v pay-v able semi-annually, which amounts to $11,250 every six months. Tho bonds sold readily, aud in many in-stances in-stances at a small premium. Had it not bocn for the sale of the city lots, however, the new administration would have found a barren treasury, the city leing virtually in a bankrupt condition. condi-tion. An inspection of City Treasurer Walden's book, made this morning, shows the following to be the actual condition of the treasury at the close of business, April 80th: IXDIBTKDNKSS.
