Show The Sun Francisco Alta, a decaying journal of tho Pacific coast, in a long winded article denouncing tho supremo court decision regarding tlio escheat of the Mormon church property, incidentally incident-ally . says: "The President of tho United States says that he will veto any l)ill passed in congress by tho aid of democratic voles." Wo don't believe President Harrison ever said any thing of the kind. He may have faults and may have committed mistakes, but ho i far from being an idiot. If a good law is passed by the aid of democratic demo-cratic votes, does any sensible man suppose that President Harrison would be fool enough to veto it just because Rome democrats voted for It? The fact is that Mr. Harrison has been credited with saying a great mauy things to which he never gave utterance. Not long ago ho was charged with having said that he would veto any free silver coinage bill. He has done nothing of the kind. Mr. Harrison is uot iu the habit of dictating to congress how it hall legislate, and he is not posting bulletins iu advance stating that he will veto this or that measure if passed. |
