Show Amendment No. 6 Proposed constitutional amendment amend-ment No. 6 to be voted upon next Tuesday provides for an increase in payment of legislators, raising the salary from four to not more than eight dollars. While a great deal has been said for and against other amendments, not much recent publicity has been given to this proposed change. The present rate is certainly far too low. Legislators have not been paid enough to fully cover their expenses while' attending sessions. Men of ability have been unwilling to sacrifice their own businesses and professional interests to serve the state at personal loss. The only thing that can be said in defense of the present compensation rate for legislators is that it is sup-post sup-post dly in the interests of economy. Certainly this is an instance where a small saving is unfavorably reflected re-flected in the type of legislation written on the statute books. Give this amendment your support. sup-port. Vote "YES" for amendment No. 6 next Tuesday. |
