Show NEW ACTIVITY IN DERBY DISTRICT reno evening gazette the the derby mining distinct distrct twenty seven miles east of reno is experiencing another revival miners coming in from the camp say there are more men and more activity in the district than there has been for several years several operators with plenty of capital have be begun un sinking upon promising ledges and it is believed that with depth the camp wll become a producer although mining has been going on in a desultory way at derby for a number of years there is not a tunnel or shaft in the entire district that has reached a greater depth than one hundred feet george V lewis P J somers and george georga H bell have just returned from a trip to derby they secured several pieces of ground and are as confident as the other owners there that important developments will soon occur A G stoper who has a shipping mine at bingham utah is one of the new arrivals at derby he has located a mile south of the railroad station where he intends to sink a foot shaft in order to get depth on a promising ledge that he had discovered he has good surface indications cornelius moss are sinking on their lead northwest of the camp they have excellent surface values assays essays going from 10 to a ton they have a splendid tunnel site and will probably take out their ore through the tunnel if the character of the ore holds up new mill in operation C F kolster and john urban both old reno miners who pinned their faith to the district several years ago and since have been hammering away have got their mill in operation they are running on 20 ore which superintendent superintend ten dent urban has been piling on the dump for many months later they may cyanide the tailings in the kolster urban there is a nine foot ledge of milling ore the average values running not far from 20 a ton A H cummings and his associates have found 20 ore at the grass gras roots a mile below derby station on the north side of the river near the stoper mine they have the same character of ore as that found by the stoper people their four foot ledge has widened to fourteen feet three miles southeast of derby E H hughes has found 23 ore in an open cut mr hughes is a recent arrival in the district but he firmly believes it will become a big producer may erect cyaniding Cyan iding plant one of the hopeful signs for an even greater revival is the presence of harry miller representing a company that contemplates building a cyaniding cyan iding plant in derby mr miller says it if the camp continues to develop and the production of pay ore in creases his company will build a plant that will treat 3 ore at a profit he is greatly impressed with the outlook smith gets big values frank smith rancher miner and host of the camp has reached the water level in his mine he has run a foot tunnel and when he encountered the level of the river found sulphides sulp hides he says he is getting 40 values smith has unlimited faith in the dizer ct he is not only prosecuting important development work in his mine but is doubling the size of his rooming house restaurant and saloon at present he is unable to accommodate the people that want accommodations dat ions somers lewis and bell the reno people who have just invested in derby will make arrangements at once to develop their claims |
