Show AROUND THE STATE 1 eureka reporter the reason that the mammoth mining company did not declare the regular dividend this month was that considerable money has recently been paid out for adjoining territory which which the company has purchased the mine continues to improve and there is every reason to believe that in the future dividends will be declared regularly eureka reporter the betros drift from the new shaft has reached within feet of a point vertically below the old works which were abandoned because of the excessive expense of hoisting and other work under the old conditions it is conal dentally expected that the ore shoot will be cut at the increased depth and that hereafter development in it will be accomplished at one half the expense which has attended development in the past eureka reporter john T hodson who in company with J H stallings and others spent an immense amount of money upon the joe bowers property at silver city several years ago has apparently struck it rich in nevada the nevada hills company in which he is one of the heaviest hta stockholders has just de clarel a dividend john kirby formerly superintendent of the bul lion beek beck mine is another old tintic gintic man who is interested in the nevada hills company john T hodson is a broiher brother to professor B P F hodson of eureka Vich richfield field reaper lorenzo nielson superintendent perin of work at the camps of the gold development company was in richfield last week on a business errand he reported to the reaper that he had just received word from the company to renew activities tivi ties at the franklin tunnel and to increase the force of men to keep operations going at both the franklin and L N tunnels mr nielson was also notified that additional machinery consisting of boiler compressor drilling machinery etc had been forwarded and to put them into use as soon as possible eureka reporter A report was circulated in tintic gintic this week to the effect that a deal was on for the control of the swansea and the south swansea mines at silver city but as near as we have been able to learn there is no truth in the rumor it seems that about the only way that the mines could be worked below the water level would be to consolidate the two the two mines are connected on almost every level and if either were to operate separately below the water level it would mean the pumping of water from both and this is a pretty expensive proposition park record superintendent brig snyder stated at noon today that splendid progress is being made at the mine and that a 11 shipment of about sixty tons of high grade copper is being made mad e today asked regard the e coal situation at his property he stated that he had been able to land a couple of cars during the past two days and that lie he was well prepared for a week or so to conie come at least the shipment being made today is of ore taken out the past few weeks burng the course of developments and the bodies are opening up in encouraging shape right along high returns are expected from the ore moab times the many friends here of alt alf crampton who left moab about ten years ago will be pleased to tintic gintic aggregated carloads superintendent perin fred butler who supplied the reporter with these figures says that nearly two thirds or seventy nine carloads was zinc ore while the other forty two carloads was wag leal ore this is a splendid record for the scranton when it is understood that it was quite late in the year before the company finished the many improvements which now low enable the handling of ore at the rate of af about one carload per day for some tinie time the output has not fallen much below one carload each day and for the remainder of the year it will be the same park record the new york bonanza will H be in the market next week with a fifty ton lot of high grade ore the mine is looking splendid and the 10 cent drop in the price of the stock the past week does not frighten those who are familiar with eli existing sting conditions it is expected that the latter part of next week will see the new skip ip installed which will greatly facilitate the work an and d materially increase the prodoc on of the mine it is useless to attempt to explain why stock in a company that has a few thousand in its treasury hundreds of tons of ore in sight and with a economical management in control should be selling around twenty cents a share but such is the case A change is coming however and scalping manipulators will be relegated to the rear ogden state journal the honor of sending the first load of ore to the new plant of the utah smelting smelling Sm elting company in this city belongs to the bonneville copper bapper company whose properties are located about nine miles from montpelier idaho the ore is very good and comes from a contact vein twenty three feet wide which was worked by C D young two years ago when after going down four feet he struck an ore body averaging seven per cent copper and about 4 in silver the vein cropping shows for feet J A posten manager managar of the riter bros drug company at montpelier is to be congratulated for having interested mining men in this property the management of the bonneville company is highly pleased with the showing and it is very likely that there will be many more shipments from this mine to the ogden smelter in the future park record A deal involving a option on the boulder basin group in the snake creek district has been consummated sum mated and G B D turner manager of the west quincy who has secured the option is now in the east rounding up capitalists ita lists who he is satisfied will grasp the opportunity to get in on the ground floor henry welsh orthis city and C E allen alien and george R hancock of salt lake are the principal owners of the property and several offers for the ground have been made them of late and that of mr turner was finally taken up work is to be commenced by march ast 1st and a strong company will be organized to carry on the development the ground is located in a very rich district touching the west quincy on the south and the wolverine on the north mr turner is an experienced mining man and promoter and he will doubtless bring the boulder basin to the front rapidly I 1 i I 1 I 1 id 1 tl aj eureka reporter it is stated that geedey and keitz will have the dry concentrating plant at the may day ready for a trial run by the first of the week the gentlemen have been at work for nearly six weeks making the necessary changes in the machinery and now have nearly everything ready to start up keely and keitz are very confident that the changes which they have made will enable them to handle the low grade ore from the mayday may day mine successfully and this same opinion is shared by the officials of the company compan 3 including manager darmer and superintendent howard eakin if the ore from the may day can be treated by this dry process it will certainly bring a great deal of money into the companas comp anys treasury and perhaps place the mine in the dividend paying column there are immense deposits of low grade ore in the may day as well as some milling ore upon the dump and everyone who has the interest of the district at heart sincerely hopes that the may days drycon dry concentrator cen will at last prove a success eureka reporter superintendent C C griggs of the uncle sam mine informs the reporter that a new electric hoist the first of the kind to be installed in tintic is now on the way from denver for use at the old humbug mine which is a part of the uncle sam mining companas comp anys holdings the humbug produced a great deal of rich ore during the time that it was onnel by uncle jesse knight but since the ground was taken over by the uncle sam company leasers leaders have been operating in the humbug workings above the tunnel level several years ago an incline shaft was sunk to a depth of about ninety feet below the main tunnel this shaft which is in about feet from the mouth of the tunnel has been timbered and a station is now being cut out superintendent in griggs says as soon as the new electric hoist is in place sinking will be commenced it being his intention to put the shaft down to a depth of feet mr griggs is of the opinion that by sinking a few hundred feet he can make a new mine out of the old humbug which has not been scratched below the tunnel level the advantages of having an electric hoist at a mine like the humbug can be seen at a glance the mine is located upon the side of the mountain where it is an awful task to get either coal or water both of which 4 will be unnecessary ec essary with the electrical equipment |
