wonderful has struck it phenomenally rich marshall taylor of coeur dalene one of the largest shareholders in the company returned from a trip of inspection to the mine yesterday with the news and samples of the ore the whole face of the upper tunnel is now in solid that will average better than 20 per cent in copper much of it is absolutely clean ore and will run over 30 per cent how much wider the ore body is than the drift cannot be told as there has been no time to do any crosscutting cross cutting though the ledge is known to be over twenty feet wide salmon recorder R S walker who is prominently identified with the gilmore mine was in town over sunday mr walker seems seema to think that the gilmore country for mining is the best part of the country he states that the mines are turning out lots of ores of good value which are taken to the railroad by large traction engines they have taken out their fifth trainload since the en enines engines ines have been put in operation the engines eng ines running night and day while this manner of getting the ore to the railroad is better than hauling by ore teams yet it is not entirely satis satisfactory factor y not so much as railway facilities mackay miner mr houtz of salt lake was shown over the mineral section of copper basin last week and returned to salt lake last saturday carrying a big sack ot samples and a detailed report of the basin properties to the salt lake people whom he represented mr houtz was highly pleased with his visit to this mining district while there he stumbled onto the great ledge of coal measuring some twenty feet and located claims on the spot this is a district that is surely worthy of much attention by mining men and will one of these fine days be on the list of big producers and atno at no distant time wallace press the interstate mine is proving the greatest surprise in the nine mile and sunset peak districts it is rapidly developing deve doping into one of the big copper mines of the coeur calenes dA lenes though no one until a few weeks ago even suspected that there was any likelihood of copper being found in that district oscar wallace the manager of the company returned from the mine on monday with a sack containing some pounds of samples in blocks that weighed as much as twenty or thirty pounds each they were nearly solid ore that would average better than 10 per cent in lead besides good values in silver the ore came from the bottom of the whize recently started on the ore shoot encountered and now being followed by the northwest drift the is down some fifteen or twenty feet and the whole bottom is in ore between two feet and thirty inches being of the high grade ore above described and the rest fine concentrating copper ore when the copper shoot was first en coull in the northwest drift it was only a few inches wide but soon widened to a foot and a half it has now been drifted on for thirty feet or more and has held that width of late where the was begun it showed only the same width but twenty feet of depth has made a marvelous improvement pro in it murray press A rumor came down the gulch on thursday evening that the long tunnel of the golden chest had cut the klondike ledge but as little water was encountered it may have been the claggett ledge or a new vein altogether three ledges about twenty feet apart course through the chest ground the lowest is the claggett about which there was so much litigation in the early the next is we believe the golden chest vein and the upper one is what has been called the klondike but is in reality the katie burnett it was hoped that the ledges would come together with depth and this may yet be the case As the ledge was only encountered on thursday afternoon little can be known about it developments in this property are of great interest to the public salmon recorder A S nichols W S spaulding A blair and T G heine of butte paid a visit of inspection to the boston idaho property on geertson creek during the past week the directors are well satisfied with the work and very hopeful of good things in the future for the company A strong copper lead was crosscut high on the mountain and at the present time the company are considering the advisability of running a base tunnel in the th spring the property is equipped with all machinery to do rapid mining development at a minimum cost the company having a water power plant and air compressor with ingersoll sargent machines the surface ground as well as the depth already attained at different points would indicate a future for this company copper being the object in view it is most likely the ground will be prospected at great depth |
