dt producers this summer and the need of a railroad extension to the mining districts west of here was never in more demand more afore ore is being hauled from the famous southern cross mine than ever before many other mines would ship their ore if they had the proper facilities tor for doing so butte miner george Lenne and doctor F L buck made a of free milling gold rock last week near pony almost most adjoining the atlantic and pacific property that may develop into a good paying property some of the rock is exceedingly rich in gold and there is a foot of it in sight besides three or four feet of gold bearing rock not quite so rich A rough assay showed a value of several hundred dollars to the ton doctor buck stated that lie he expected to have a mill in operation on the property by july according to advices advises from saltese maltese the tarbox has struck it rich the pay shoot in the drift on the foot level has widened from two to five feet in the last few days some of the boys came in from the mine yesterday with the news they also brought a large general sample of the face of the drift which shows it to be nearly clean shipping ore this strike has confirmed the company in its intention to erect a 50 or 75 ton concentrator right away and richard daxon the president announces that work on the mill will begin within sixty days butte miner J L stuart of lewistown Lewis town has discovered a body of very high grade galena in the hills about two miles from maiden mr stuart says he is no not t yet prepared to give out any statement as to the extent of the ore body and is not going to make any claims until more development work has been done experts who have examined the samples say it is from 75 to 80 per cent galena carrying considerable value in silver in in spite of mr stuarts reticence at this time the find is considered by many as one of the most important made near maiden in a good while butte miner the green campbell mining company which is operating the green campbell and other mines near silver star in madison county is evidently in a prosperous pero us condition during february ore netting was extracted and the prospects of larger returns this month are very good A vein of gold quartz bearing ore eleven feet wide has been discovered one foot of which averaged per ton and another foot that runs 40 the remainder averaged only 8 and only the first class ore was shipped A meeting of the directors was held last week at which plans for the erection of a stamp mill were considered it is probable that the plans will be accepted and the work and the work of sinking the shaft to the foot level has just been completed other extensive improvements have been under way with the idea of reaching bodies of ore which were further in the ground and the discovery of friday is the first result of the developments while the exact extent of the strike is not yet definitely known it is thought to be a very good one seven feet of ore has already been cut and it shows well in copper and silver the president of the company I 1 is charles E morris of pony while charles E mattison is secretary and john bergin manager mr mattison is very enthusiastic over the find and believes that it I 1 is S only the forerunner of a larger and more valuable body of ore he said he thought the mine which has always been considered a good producer gulch mines will start up soon although it may be under different management president nelson of the chicago montana company has just returned from the gulch and gives it out that he will probably be able to adjust the existing difficulties pay off of the debts an and resume operations but whether he is able to carry out his plans or not the probabilities are that the mines will not lie idle two parties are after them and if mr nelson fails outsiders will undoubtedly secure the properties one of these syndicates is composed of spokane men and is said to be headed by fish campbell who are heavily interested in the great kendall the other parties who would like to operate the property are denver men should either of these interests acquire the mines it is said they will be operated in the future j n a very different way from what they were in iii the past the chicago montana company company tried to bring about a sort of an instantaneous development of a prospect into a mine the management nearly succeeded too and was ablerto able to make a profit for a time but some bad gro ground und without any development work having been done to guard against just such a contingency put the property back and the crash came |
