Show A NEW COPPER COPPER PROCESS A correspondent of the daily tribune writing from richfield utah says charles chales miller arrived from the south a few days ago with a party of men who have been testing a new method of handling copper ores at the property of the coconino company in the northern part of arizona mr miller stopped off in richfield while the others went on to the city he had a bottle of copper precipitates and a couple of novelties which he had made from precipe preci pi tates the most remarkable feature of the process is the rapidity of action crushed ore can be put in the tanks of blue sulphide solution in the forenoon and then treated to a steam bath and by 4 oclo ck in the afternoon the copper is ready for use the novelties which mr miller exhibited consisting of a small pick and hatchet were made one evening from copper which had been put in the solution the same day the method was discovered by accident accidee t a couple of years ago E P jennings and a mr wilcox were employed by the coconino company as chemist and mechanic respectively mr wilcox noticed that where a steam pipe entered one of the tanks the mouth of the pipe and the walls of the tank in its immediate vicinity were coated with pure copper he experimented with the discovery sufficiently to be convinced that it was worth further investigation and he went to chicago and continued experimenting until he fo found und a completely successful method of treating copper ore steam is the principal agency of the process he has been able to effect a complete precipitation of copper in two hours the precipitates are absolutely pure and ready tor for manufacture the party were on their way to nevada to try the process on ores of a copper prop erty which they have out there if the method is as much of a success on the copper ores of that country as they were at coconino it means a revolution in copper mining by this method ore carrying as loy low as I 1 per cent of metal can be e handled profitably the process has been patented and the gentlemen are taking care that their rights shall not bo be infringed upon |
