Show A boston stockholders visit gret divide of bingham Bing Km NIC v it has been more than ten years ago ance don maguire the eminent geologist lid ad mining expert gave to the world his report on bingham designating it as the oming gigantic copper producing camp of utah it was at that time a producer of lead silver and gold with deeper mining the camp has developed into info the biggest copper camp of the state or of this intermountain inter mountain coun try and its name has become famed throughout the east and into foreign lands where its vel vet money is being distributed among i those ithone who invested their money for the development of bf the big mines of this dcamp caina As one sue suc icess cess calls for another those who were I 1 successful in the present dividend I 1 payers have s sought ought to achieve other successes and have invested into neighboring prospects i and made a superficial cial examination of the camp in general and the property of the great divide mines company in particular the party were all stockholders in the great divide company and representing their own holdings dings and the holdings of friends bame came to look over the property and examine into its merits and the integrity and character of its western line and bac each f mounted a steed and commenced the slow and torturous climb over the trail that marked the course along the sharp slopes to the lofty crest of the oquirrh range the dizzy view of the broad valley below with the giant smelters shelters sm elters and little moving objects that left their trails of smoke betokening the array of freight and pa passenger trains was indeed a gratifying change 1 from the k 4 I 1 pw I 1 A A VISITING BOSTON stockholders HOLDERS AT GREAT DIVIDE BOARDING HOUSE their friends in the remote east have joined them in such investments and a par aty ty of these investors hailing from the new j england states to the number of twenty ahree in a chartered palace car and chaperoned by the genial 0 F sampson of boston jon made a visit to the bingham camp on the last of june and went through some of the big mines such as the highland boy mine line of the utah consolidated company management they comprised business men of all pursuits and combined their business visit to bingham with pleasure and sightseeing sight seeing along the route many of the party had been in the camp before and others had been in the west but there were some who had not even ridden over a mountain range on a horses back before so that when the string of more than thirty saddle horses greeted them at the end of the stage 13 iong pent up and stuffy car the party arrived in salt lake city on sunday june and spent the day in sight seeing and left for the bingham mining camp on monday morning in about an hour and a half the destination of the car was reached and all I 1 were loaded in into to four in hand stages and were conveyed to the highland boy mine where a stop il vs s made that all might go through this his t magnificent property they also visited the power house and tramway station of the same company and then continued their journey arriving at the copper boy mine over the mountain in about two hours ride where another stop was ma made de that the party might again light their candles and file into the tunnel to inspect tie the workings of the copper boy mine of which c company mcany 0 many of the party we were re stockholders after viewing the showing in the tunnel and examining the ore on the dump all again mounted and journeyed on reaching the headquarters of the great divide mine in the early part of the afternoon and were rested and refreshed by a most inviting spread at the home of the mine superintendent mr J B taylor after due rest the party once again lighted their candles and filed into the tunnel of this property which though a comparatively new enterprise has a tunnel into the mountain a distance of nearly feet an and d which is nearing the junction of a large east and west vein with a gigantic north and south ledge instead of driving an adit tunnel the management wisely paralleled the big ledge so as to enable a crosscut cross cut of but a few feet to get a splendid back in both directions at this group embraces nearly six hundred acres and covers the line of the strike of the veins in their east and west course for more than two miles and joins the utah consolidated and copper boy properties on alie the east cast of this group and joins the argentine and diana claims on this groups south side line it also joins the mountain chief venice group and the utah apex on its north and northeast lines as well as the western mining and milling company it also joins the star and fowler group on the northwest this property has more than twenty openings upon it aggregating some twelve hundred feet of works in practical development and prospect holes all showing ore sufficient buildings and accommodations and out buildings to accommodate thirty men roads trails etc have been constructed for all purposes magazines r 77 A wo 11 I 1 X 40 4 0 k I 1 won VISITING OF GREAT DIVIDE AT MOUTH OF BIG combination DEEP TUNNEL the junction of the two cross veins it is believed a huge ore chute chuie will reward the labors of the company one of the principal features however of not only the great divide mine but of tiie the copper boy and even the highland boy and other older and bigger mines of the camp is the commencement of a big combination deep working and drainage t tunnel innel which at a length of 2000 feet will cut the ore dykes of the great divide at a i vertical depth of 1052 feet un under der the present workings it is a giant tunnel which will drain the entire properties of the neighborhood more more will be said of this feature of the property later in this article the number of claims embraced in the great divide group is forty two as well as an undivided one half interest in the hannah n ah cl claim a im of these fifteen have already passed to td patent and the balance have been surveyed and the patents are now pending tres sels and framework frame work for ore bins for a capacity of fifteen hundred tons are erected and only require a few days for completion ion sufficient water has been developed by the spring tunnel as well as the immense springs barl owned by this company to operate a m mill of one hundred tons capacity per day this company also owns a town S site te im immediately contiguous to its works whereby a branch from the san pedro los angeles and salt lake railroad from bryan station to its lower lover works can put a spur to its ore bins on not to exceed a four per cent grade it is estimated that this company has standing on its ground four hundred thousand running feet of mining t timber i as well as from three to four hundred thousand feet of saw timber board measure easy of access at all seasons of 0 the year giving assurance to the stockholders of the com pany that it has sufficient tim timber er lumber etc as well as vast bodies of fire wood to supply its wants for twenty years to come this company also has an interest in what is known as the combination tunnel this tunnel is twelve by eight and one half feet double compartment its object is isto to develop the great divide copper coppe T boy and western M M companas comp anys ground as well as to eventually be a source of drainage for the great mining properties of bin aham this tunnel will tap the great divide ground at the spring tunnel 1052 feet deeper than its present works and and will tap its large veins under clipper peak at a vertical depth of feet A it will also tap the bingham copper boy at a vertical depth of 1572 feet below its present works it will also tap the bingham and newhaven and argentine group at a depth of 1740 feet deeper than their present works A drift t east from this tunnel ato the utah consolidated highland boy will drain that property feet lower than its present works continuing th that at drift 0 on into the boston consolidated ground would drain that mine more than feet belor bela its present workings regarding the utah apex this tunnel will tap the old york ground more than 1700 feet lower than its present workings this tunnel when completed will not be less than feet long and will afford a drainage outlet for the great mines of gingham bingham and is a most feasible proposition as it will give an outlet for their ore tonnage owing to the fact that their ores can be dropped into chutes and delivered through this tunnel on board cars for not to exceed thirty cents per ton owing to the fact that direct railway connection can be made at the mouth of this tunnel giving direct connection by rail with all the smelters shelters sm elters in salt lake valley it can be said however that it is not necessary to transport the ores to the valley smelters shelters sm elters owing to the fact that all the material necessary for the fluxing flexing ol of the sulphide ores is immediately contiguous to the present smelter site and sufficient water abounds saying nothing of the amount that will be developed in this tunnel to reduce 1000 tons of ora ore per day at the present time from a logical standpoint baledon based on the watersheds of this section which embraces twenty seven squares miles the drainage drai nago or flow through this tunnel would be greatly in excess of all required requirements ants for milling and smelting smelling sm elting and other purposes the officers of the great divide win company are well known to the business public and director henry A mccornick is president walter A cooke is vice president and director joseph H hurd is secretary and dl director rector rodney T from this city and spent two days in making an inspection of the great divide copper boy and other mining properties of this portion of the district and was gratified at the splendid showings in all the workings as well as the outcrops and surface indications all of which give unmistakable indications of the coming big producers to follow further conservative and systematic development making these younger mines on the western portion 9 f tho the camp rivals of the present mammoth producers in the eastern part of the district |
