Show GREEN RIVER navigation progress castle dale utah E T wolverton formerly manager of the colorado fuel and iron companas comp anys manganese property near little grand utah believes that he has solved the problem of navigating the lower green and grand rivers and the upper colorado a problem which for years has baffled experienced river men says the salt lake tribune mr wolverton has recently returned from a trip which he took in a boat of his own construction from green river utah to a point 90 miles down the river and return he was accompanied by several denver mining men and the region traversed was carefully studied from the prospectors point of view mr wolverton states that he has nowhere in twenty years experience in the mining camps of the west seen richer and more abundant bodies of ore rich deposits were noted in the vicinity of cataract canyon as well as on higher elevations vat ions mr wolverton believes that the region must inevitably command attention from the prospector as soon as the transportation por tation problem is solved to make the trip mr wolverton found it necessary to build a boat on special lines specially adapted to the peculiarities of the rivers traversed the power for the boat was furnished by a gasoline engine and it was built at a point on the green river about thirty five miles below the station of that name several previous pravio us attempts have been made to explore these rivers and their canyons but all have met with di disaster r aster mr wolverton considers the present feasible limits of navigation on a commercial scale are defined by the green river between the station of that name in utah on the north the head of the cataract canyon on the south and moab utah on the grand river on the east only boats of shallow draught con constructed strut on special lines to insure steadiness and strength with speed as an incident can ever be utilized within the limits named and insure regular and safe transportation on these rivers |
