with the idea that the mining industry is the basis of the prosperity of utah and that the future growth and welfare ot of salt lake depends very largely upon the output of our mines upon the splendid list of dividend payers which now grace our mining camps and upon the trans formation of promis ing prospects into regular shippers and breadwinners bread winners the association also realizes the fact that the majority of i the fine business b us i n e s s blocks which adorn j 0 our u r thoroughfares t were built with the aliey taken from cur clil mines that the spen splendid did and com fordable for table homes which embellish the residence portions of zion to a very large extent owe ther their ex istance to the cess that has attend ed their owners in mining operations and that the mining mari man the investor and the prospector when he makes a stake in the mining districts of this intermountain region invariably looks to salt lake for opportunities of investment whether whether it be in the way of securing a home for himself and family the purchase of a business block or in n the taking up of some commercial or P manufacturing pursuit this being the case the association has gone to great pains and to considerable expense in fitting up a mineral exhibit at its headquarters at 15 west second south street to which many mining companies and individual mining operators have most generously contributed this mineral exhibit the major portion of which is kept in a fine wall cabinet with glass front has attracted a great deal ot attention and not only among mining men out nut at the hands of strangers and tourists as well and not so much because of the presence enc e of rich and rare specimens but owing to the display of so man many y samples in bulk 16 and in such quantity and also because of the further fact that so many of mining districts and camps are represented in this choice collection of ores and minerals taken as a whole the exhibition is a magnificent one although althou gb it will be more complete when mining men respond more liberally to the request of the association to send in specimens and samples from their properties but tak i THE REAL ESTATE association NS en as a whole it is a reprise representative exhibit as ores and minerals from ne nearly ably every camp and district in the state hava found lodgment there and this is no vest pocket dis play as most of the specimens specimen s and sample are in bulk and represent the mining industry upon a commercial scale and as such it appe appeals alsto to the visitor to the investor and to those in search of knowledge and and reliable information concerning the scope and magnitude of our mining industry included in the exhibit is a choice collection of ores from the silver king mine of park city a property that is paying monthly in dividends and which to date has distributed among its shareholders in the shape of velvet money the ophir hill of ophir senator clarks property has a fine exhibit and the yankee consolidated of eureka Is well represented some of the samples according to assay going 31 per cent lead 2322 ounces in silver to the ton prom from the kearns and keith mine park city there is a nice collection of galena and chloride ores as well as a lot of concentrates from the K K mill the norway iron company from its morgan county mines makes an exhibit of ore that goes 65 per cent in iron to the ton the utah copper company from its bingham mines and mill Is represented by both crude ore and concentrates cen the latter assaying 45 per cent copper 7 in gold and 3 in silver to the ton while the united states mining company of the same camp has a fine display of copper sulphides sulp hides and copper iron ores the united bingham also of bingham being represented by some beautiful specimens of copper ore the continental alta mines of alta has a very fine collection in the cabinet the exhibit from these properties being large and varied some of the samples amples according to fire tests assaying 47 per cent lead 11 per cent copper 58 silver and in t gold old galena ore and copper sulphides sulp hides from the dalcon lark of bingham are interest interesting inz features of the exhibit while the grand old centennial eureka of eureka owned by the united states mining company has a fine collection of silver gold and copper ores the eagle blue bell another of Eu splendid mines has on exhibition block galena and silie fous ores one sample in the case carrying values of ounces in silver and in gold to the ton the godiva of the same camp has a fine collection also and so has the gemini keystone one of the greatest producers and dividend payers of the state the uncle sam of eureka is well represented with samples of crude ore and concentrates and the ontario of park city which has paid nearly fifteen million in dividends and which has helped so materially in making mining so popular in this state has a fine display of low grade and high grade silver ores the daly west of the same camp another of our great dividend payers being well represented as well to describe the exhibit minutely and exhaustively hau in the brief space allotted to a short newspaper article is out of the question those above mentioned do not embrace the largest or best by any means as they are followed by large and small exhibits from various ton this Is a magnificent specimen and Is attracting tr a great deal of attention the association now has a membership of about fifty and it is doing all in its power powe to hd advertise vertise to the world the unrivaled resources and advantages of utah although it L fully realizes the fact that the advertising that the state has been receiving abroad for the past two years has been largely det ri mental to our material interests and that it has had a tendency to drive away home seekers and investors and all because un lin unpleasant conditions here have been exah in commenting upon this fact the mat mar ager of the information bureau of the association says it is the prime purpose or object of the association to present to to tourists or home seekers the exceptional advantages that utah offers without exaggeration or co coloring lorinz it is a matter of daily occurrence for eastern visitors to express wonderment and even disbelief when informed that utah is rapidly taking a leading place amon among the mineral producing countries of the world it is yet a matter of common belief among easterners that those who make their homes in utah are still compelled to endure the pr privations and hardships of pioneer days hence the metropolitan educational and commet commer cial advantages of salt lake cannot be too widely advertised the association heartily invites the cooperation of every mining man and of every mining company in the state and requests that they bring in ore and mineral samples for display in the mineral exhibit and in its efforts to the industrial and commercial interests of the city and state it ex pacts the active and loyal operation cooperation co of every salt lake business man the sightseeing sight seeing car of the city railroad company stops daily in front of the association headquarters and the lecturer calls attention to the mineral exhibit as well as to the fine collection and display of agricultural and other products and the tourist Is also informed that literature pertaining to the resources and advantages of utah can be obtained at the headquarters of the association 0 |
