Show resumption OF THE RENO SMELTER the smelter of the electric mine and reduction company which is located midway between this city and sparks on the southern pacific railroad says the gazette of reno nev will resume operations tomorrow after an idleness of two years this property which is owned by boston capitalists H D corey and lester williams is in iii a good state of repair and but few celanges cL anges have been necessary in order to commence operations the present run on which they will commence operations consists of 1000 1003 tons of ore from the company s mines near lovelock lov elock in the trinity and arabia districts this ore ere is free mill ginging gold and silver sulphides sulp hides and it will require about a months time to complete the run as only a small force will be employed aloyed some time ago the company entered into a lease for a period of two years with the option of purchase at the ie expiration 11 of that period with the nevada milling reduction company of california ca I fornia and on the completion of the present run the mill will be turned over to this company the intention of the new lessees lessels les sees it is understood is to install a new leeching beeching lee ching process for the treatment of low grade ore these improve ments will require an expenditure of from to and will give the mill a much greater capacity it will also be a boon to mines producing the low grade ores as many of them have not sufficient means to erect their own mills and consequently the lower grades have been thrown on the dumps becoming a dead asset under the new process which will be installed the lowest grades can be handled profitably for the mines thereby utilizing a class of ore and producing a revenue which has heretofore been lost with the installation ins talia of the new machinery the capacity will be increased to tons daily which will be sufficient for present needs but as occasion demands this capacity will be increased when in full operation the new lessees lessels will employ from thirty to forty men and will be one of the leading industrial factors of reno while for the present goldfield and tono pah ores will not be treated it is the intention of the company to eventually enter that field as thousands of tons of medium and low grade ores are in baese two districts awaiting treatment these when vie the railroad facilities become adequate can be profitably shipped here and treated the present equipment of the smelter consist of a ten stamp dry battery a fifty ton roaster of cf V modern pattern six leeching beeching lee ching tanks an eight stamp wet battery two frue lanneis banners van neis ners two g furnaces one of twenty five and one ne of fifty tons cam ity with ol 01 bolher ier nees suy equipment for a complete smelter shelter and reduction works the motive power of the plant is furnished n shed from a tall tail race with a 90 horse power turbine on a twenty foot fall this by wire cables drives a seventy five horse mi uever iver dy dynamo w ajeh furnis furnish hp PK t the actual power ol oi 1 the plant reno has for a long time needed a sni l and with the many surrounding edues it will prove a boon both to the mining industry a and nd to the general industrial inter interest cst ci 01 the city mr H W sheldon tile the present manager of the works who has made many fyie irs during his bis stay in the city wl vill remain with the new company |
