Show CAMP NEWHOUSE in speaking of the new camp of newhouse being built below the cactus mine in beaver county utah the milford times says in going from milford to newhouse by rail the elevation to frisco distance seventeen miles averages feet per mile from frisco to newhouse distance seven miles the descent is a little over 1200 feet pretty steep incline when you come to ride over it camp newhouse proper is situated near the edge of the wah wah valley about two miles down from the mouth of the cactus mine tunnel which when completed will be considerably over a mile in length the tunnel is being driven in from the mine and valley sides and it is expected that connection will be made by christmas or january 1905 the town of newhouse consists of a large boarding house two stores seventeen cottages constructed and in process of construction st various other buildings and numerous tents between and men are employed in the mine and tunnel the erection of the concentrating mill etc the great ton mill when completed will occupy a ground space of 96 feet the great iron smokestack now completed looms up feet from the base superintendent of construction joseph deidrich is handicapped in the construction of the mill on account of the slow delivery of material but it is expected to have it ready for operation on or about the first of the year L F P has the grading of the railroad from the depot to the mouth of the tunnel about three miles and so well is the work in hand that the grading will be completed within a month the grade is four and one half per cent the ore will be brought down to the concentrator by gravity at newhouse the summers are pleasant and the winters are not cold in our opinion newhouse is destined destined to be the ideal raining ing camp of this state we did not have time to see any part at the great cactus mine we hope to soon be able to have something to say of the physical conditions of the mine min e now being scientifically developed and which already shows up with millions of df dollars worth of ore of shipping and milling quality the camp is being built on modern lines everything is being done for the convenience and comfort of employees no haunts of vice will be permitted within the geographical lines of the camp so that temptation of employees to indulge in dissipation is now and will continue to be kept at a minimum 0 |
