| Show HELP WANTED As in all other pursuits and occupations there are many peculiar phases connected with the mining industry and any man about to embark in a mining enterprise should study the subject well in order to detect any inconsistency connected with the statements made by those wh who are seeking operation of mining properties the majority of such appeals are honestly made and are worthy of due consideration but there are instances where they are ridiculous dangerous and stupid and all such should be shunned by those seeking for legitimate and profitable investments in the mining industry several years ago the writer was approached pro ached by an alleged prospector with the statement that he the prospector while out in the desert many miles from civilization had found placer diggings that were so rich that with every of the gravel he could take out 20 in the yellow metal this man was seeking financial assistance and wanted to interest money to send him back to this newfound new found eldorado when asked why hei he left such an inviting spot he claimed he was out of provisions isman chisman Th was a fake pure and simple if the placers were as rich as he claimed he could have taken out at least 2000 or in an hours time this accomplished he could have journeyed to the nearest settlement where his gold would have furnished him all the supplies and tools that he needed if his find had been genuine he would have kept the secret of its location to himself and a months work would have made him a millionaire and yet he hung around the hotels for several months in the vain endeavor to interest capital in his discovery this man was a bilk and there are many others like him I 1 the press of the west contains many fishy stories regarding alleged fabulous finds we say fabulous or else their discoverers cover ers are crazy or are on the fraudulent order the latest case of help wanted comes from one of our sister states in this instance the claim owner in the development of his property sunk a shaft to a depth of fifty feet at the bottom he started to drift on a vein and was soon in a six toot foot ore body in which were numerous stringers ot of free gold carding gold nuggets galore As if this were not good enough for any man an inch streak of gold was followed on one of the walls of the vein that asals to the ton and this vein and rich pay streak has been followed for a distance of three feet and the ore taken out if as rich as claimed should net the miner or 10 and yet the owner of this bonanza so one of our exchanges states has gone to one of the commercial centers of the west for the purpose of interesting capital for the development of his property and he is doing this in the face of the fact that at his mine he could take out more golden wealth in a day that he could raise in some city in a month taking it that he should be successful in his mission in this connection the thought comes to the thinking man what more can a man want when he is able to take out pure gold by the shovel full I 1 the case of a man at goldfield nevada was entirely different all that this man wanted was time with a case knife he was gouging out ore from a rich pay streak which he reduced in a hand mortar his labors netting him about a day another man in this camp working on a lease would not let a distinguished visitor examine the mine excepting between shifts giving as a reason for his refusal the fact that every time that the bucket came up with a load of ore that it meant for him and that to stop hoisting for five minutes would mean a loss of 1000 1000 in a days output neither of bf these two men left their properties for the purpose of seeking financial assistance time was what they wanted and yet we often hear of men claiming to possess possess mining propositions of equal value who prefer to beg in the city for help rather I 1 than to take it from their alleged holdings by the hundreds and thousands daily in ninety nine cases out of a hundred financial assistance is necessary in mine development and operation for dame nature is seldom so prodigal in the deposition of her treasures that they can be found and recovered by human agency without the expenditure pend iture of considerable time and money at the beginning but when a glory hole is discovered when the precious metal is found in quantity in its purity no help is wanted or needed by the finder in order that he may take advantage of the good fortune to which he has fallen heir |
