Show PARK R K NEW MINERS HOSPITAL from the perk peak record we present this week a picture of the new miners hospital which is now ready for its first patient As may be seen the structure is a beautiful one to look upon from the outside and its interior finish and equipment is in keeping with the exterior it is a building which would be a credit to any city and especially is it so to to the park the liberality and public spiritedness of whose citizens made its erection possible the committee under whose directions the structure has been put up is to be congratulated on the manner in which the work has been done and for the perseverance they of the furniture furni tuTe and furnishings were left to the ladies of the kastern eastern star and these ladies have also prepared all of the linen necessary for the institution making the shee tings pillow cases etc from the best quality of material and yesterday delivered it all at the hospital going themselves to properly apportion and arrange the articles in the various rooms which they did with credit to themselves and to the institution the hospital committee has furnished one ward operating room etc and nave have selected everything in keeping with the general appearance of th the building ebu alding 8 ai t t A ata 4 4 J 10 A THE NEW HOSPITAL have shown in overcoming the many obstacles which they have met in striving to make their undertaking successful A glance at the work on the building within and without is convincing evidence that not the least detail has been slighted and that only the best and most skillful workmen have been employed by mr harry campbell from whose plans and under whose foremanship it has been built the furniture was all received this week and is now in place three private rooms have been furnished by secret societies one each by mountain chapter no 2 0 B E S ontario lodge no 1 A 0 U W and farhi CRY 1 odge no B P 0 elks and the fourth room by mrs water walter who took this generous means of showing her approval of the undertaking the purchase sd 1 mrs M M P F allen alien furnished the necessary silverware she also having the best interests of the hospital and the city at heart miss nelson a graduate of charity hospital new york whose record as a trained nurse is well known and whose general ability is unquestioned has been selected ma arons and wi wil I no doubt fill the position admirably mir ably mr and mrs J F obrien of this city have been appointed stewards and will perform the duties of their position to the satisfaction atis faction of those in control they being people of experience in this work every necessary detail has been attended to and park cites long cherished hope for i 3 modern well equipped hospital has been bee fully realized and with the assistance and 30 o af pf p the flip mining companies and the citizens generally the institution will wall be made a paying proposition as well as a haven of comfort and helpfulness to the sick and afflicted of our progressive city A movement towards the erection of a hospital began with the miners union almost a year ago and was i talked up and agitated extensively a meet meeting ing of the union being held in the dewey theatre last christmas day for the purpose of discussing the matter this meeting proved a grand success every member of the union was in favor of it committees were appointed and from then until the present time the new ho hospital spital has been the topic of the day A subscription was started to which every business house in the city besides a number of individuals gave freely and soon en enough ough capital was assured to warrant the beginning of work the question of a site for the new building then arose and after considering several different positions nelson hill was finally decided upon as the most healthful ful and practical spot mrs aliza iza nelson showed her public spiritedness at this time and gave the hospital committee an acre ot or land upon which to erect the new building so that nothing remained but to begin work contractor harry campbell was authorized to draw up plans and these pleased so well that they were immediately accepted and on thursday april ground for th the e hospital was broken A large force of men were employed from the beginning and it was pushed to completion with all possible speed the mines of the camp have promised their support to the institution so that its future success is assured A deal has just been closed which provides for the payment of all claims on the building so that it can now be occupied at many any moment the hospital has been erected without the east variation from the original plans as drawn up by mr campbell and is modern and convenient in every respect the building proper is and will be surrounded by flower beds lawns and walks as soon as they can be laid out in the basement are the kitchen and two bed rooms axll for the kitchen help also a laundry 11 ft 8 ins x 13 ft 8 ins furnace room and a coal bunker 10 all ft 8 ins besides the dumb waiter and clothes press the ceilings in the basement are 8 feet high on the first floor is an office vestibule a private bedroom a dining room pantry reception hall nurses room linen room and a ward 2 27 7 12 A 7 foot veranda extends extend s alon along C the entire front of the building at this story the operating room is on the second floor as are the sterilizing rooms two private bedrooms bathroom and toilet hall smoking room linen room and a ward the building is arranged so as to get the best light and ventilation possible all the windows being provided with transoms reaching nearly to the ceiling steam heat will be used throughout the building and the plumbing is of the most sanitary and modern pattern this branch of work was was done by W er deighton and is thoroughly up to date A correct idea of the beauty and comfort of the structure cannot be gained unless it is visited and a trip through it will amply repay one for his time spent there colonel wm M ferry one of the old residents of the city visited the hospital yesterday afternoon and expressed his admiration mi ration of the building and its equipment in eloquent terms later in the evening he sent to the hospital a check for five hundred dollars which he wished to have go towards paying off the indebtedness on the structure mr ferry has proved his public spiritedness at every opportunity offered in the camps history and by such acts as these he has endeared himself to the people of park city his wife a charitable woman desirous of giving some substantial aid to the hospital has furnished one of the large wards at a cost of the generous gifts of mr and mrs ferry are deeply appreciated by the hospital management and by park ites in general other large donations were made by henry spriggs who gave one thousand dollars and by the welsh driscoll buch and aschheim establishments which gave two hundred and fifty dollars each |
