Show SHOWING IN THE HERCULES statesman boise idaho G scott anderson of wallace who is now visiting boise the first time in 12 years reports conditions in the coeur calenes dA lenes are very satisfactory and that the great industry of the district is in a highly prosperous condition mr anderson is engineer kiji er for the hercules mine he regards 1 it as one of the finest properties he has ever seen it has made a record equalled equal led by very few there or elsewhere having been developed by poor men who have been able to carry on the work from the time when it was a mere location now after it has been developed into a great mine paying handsome dividends it is still owned oy the men who made the earlier exploration of the ground speaking further of the property mr anderson said it had been developed by three tunnels the first was run near the surface this disclosed some carbonates which in that district are indicative of the proximity of good ore bodies another tunnel was then run feet deeper there was much difficulty in finding the vein and an immense amount of work was done before the ore shoot was opened from that level the ore shipments have all been made the shoot having been followed upward very nearly to the upper level another tunnel had been driven mr anderson continued opening the vein feet deeper deepen an upraise was being made to the other level this was being driven in the wall and would be used as a chute through which the ore would be sent down this upraise did not show what was in tae vein but where the tunnel struck the ledge I 1 the ore shoot was as largeant large and as rich as above mr anderson said he did not know of a place in the ore shoot where the pay was less than six feet in width and it was that narrow only at one point the width ran generally from 10 to 15 feet and the shoot on the upper level was feet in length at one point 40 feet of ore was found but it was rather at the side of the regular pay streak asked about the grade of the ore mr anderson said he was not in a position to state with exactness what it would average but it was his understanding that the galena carried from 60 to 70 per cent lead ani and about 1 in silver for each unit of the other metal the carbonate ore found in theold works in some quantity often ran fabulously high in silver many specimens had been taken out that were nearly pure metal the carbonates cut out as depth was gained the permanent pay streak being the galena no milling ore had been mined the entire product of the property being shipped in IES raw state |
