Show E the gold run mining company of bradshaw district 11 the first mineral discovery in utah according to all accounts was made in what is now known as lincoln mining district beaver county utah within a short distance of minersville Miners ville at one time a thrifty and prosperous mining camp the discovery which was made in the year 1858 being afterwards ter wards known and designated as the old rollins mine the ore from the rollins was almost pure metal going very heavy in its lead and silver val lies so pure in fact that history records that the pioneer settlers settler of beaver county owing to the scarcity of I 1 lead e a d used to get the ore from this mine and run tt it down into bullion which was afterwards ter wards into bullets and shot to be used in their warfare with the indians then hostile to the white men of that region and who were oblivious to the fact that the pale men were nut mit their ranks with bullets composed very largely of the white metal mingled with the lead of which these messengers of destruction were supposed to be made immediately north of lincoln district is bradshaw mining district and it was not long after the discovery of the rollins mine in the former that the old cave mine was found in the latter bradshaw district is about eight miles east of milford on the san pedro los angeles salt lake railroad and the old cave in mine ine is easily to be seen from the wagon road connecting milford with minersville Miners ville and to those thase traveling through that country the old cave mine is 19 pointed out as one of the historic and prominent landmarks of that section and it is an important one too as in the past it has given to the world large volumes of imperishable wealth its net production to date in gold silver and lead being in near neighborhood of an important feature connected with the operation of this property being that in the lime formation of this mine great caves exist from which fortunes in the precious and baser metals have been taken one of these cavities alone yielding something like tons of ore which besides its lead and silver contents average 35 in gold to the ton among the meritorious properties in old bradshaw district might be mentioned that owned by the gold run mining company the company has in all fifteen claims in two groups the chief group consists of nine claims which are designated as the chief chief no 2 consolidated and consolidated soli dated nos 1 2 3 4 and 5 these claims are all contiguous and are located just north of the famous cave mine the chief shaft 41 a 4 va 4 SHAFT AND WINDLASS ON THE GOLD RUN GROUP is granite the granite belt has a strike of northeast and southwest and is about one mile in width igneous rock has by volcanic action been protruded through the lime which lies just west of the shaft and the contact is also again found one mile to the east of the shaft five distinct quartz fissure veins having a strike of nor north th and south can readily be traced through the entire chief group that ran as high as in gold to the ton but no body of high grade ore has as yet been encountered the company has made several opening on these veins to demonstrate their regularity and continuity and has chosen the vein on the western claim as the one upon which to sink this vein is two feet wide and was followed down sixty feet on a dip of 45 degrees where a natural cave was encountered filled with loose quartz and granite that assays essays 2 per ton in gold the indications are most promising as these were the conditions found in the cave mine adjoining the property and from which great wealth has been extracted the officers are much pleased with the prospect and are galena king lode a small pocket of lead silver ore was wa s taken out this ore assayed 44 per cent lead and 42 ounces silver this is believed to be the fo rerunning of a good body of ore and certainly invites prospecting the vertical section herewith illustrated gives the formation and shows the location 40 W S THE OLD CAVE MINE AND WORKS convinced that they have a mine of great merit they are now sinking a vertical shaft at the mouth of the incline the intention is to sink the shaft until the lime is pierced the contact being estimated as two hundred feet below the surface from the shaft they will also drift and get beneath the cave spoken of above the gold ore in these veins is free milling and steps have been taken to procure the necessary water supply for the mill which the management proposes building if the hopes of striking the ore body in the shaft are realized the halftone embellishing this article shows the site of the shaft from which the material is hoisted at present by windlass but in the spring a hoisting engine will be installed and a larger force of men will be put on and with the amount of development work to be done this spring and summer we may look for another paying mine among utah producers the second group known as the iron duke group comprises six claims viz the iron duke queen homer belt may and galena king this group lies about one mile east of the chief group and covers the contact between the lime and the granite which is spoken of above and upon which is being sunk the chief shaft As the name implies the being matter is iron in the form of carbon ore and is exactly the saile same material as that found in the cave mine here too the veins are larger and in the prospect shaft sunk during the summer of 1903 the vein is six feet wide the walls are lime assaying 30 per cent iron and 2 in gold in one of the prospects on the of the two groups of claims located on either contact of the granite and lime the chief group on the west side and the iron duke group on the east the majestic mining companas comp anys properties lie on the west side of milford station and the large smelter built by thum them last year will undoubtedly handle the smelting smelling sm elting ores mined by the gold run mining co the the lime when the shaft pierces through the granite we have had some rich samples from the shaft and we fully expect to strike a body of ore that will handsomely repay the stockholders for their iny investment estment two years ago I 1 went over the ground thoroughly and so well convinced was I 1 of the merits of 0 the property ahat that I 1 induced others to go in and help in its development we then organized baniz ed the gold run mining company the directors are mr A K tiernan mr chas de dolsy moisy mr R J decker mr F C dern and myself so far we are pleased with the results and this years development I 1 believe will prove our judgment correct the fact that we adjoin the famous cave mine is evidence of our location being worthy but independent of that relationship the geological conditions and heavy aliza tion is sufficient proof of the great merit of our property ora e 64 Z rz ay w ti 2 ya 1 I ison bb tr ive IV ene aj s verica Ver rca 10 avi of mineralized throughout the granite by volcanic action has protruded through the lime and has overflowed that part where the chief shaft is located to a probable depth of two hundred feet and it is highly probable that a nice body of ore will be encountered in |
