Show THE LATEST STRIKE IN THE BELMONT bonanza tonopah To nev A representative of the bonanza through the courtesy of general manager oddle oddie and accompanied by foreman jordan visited the underground workings of the belmont this week and inspected the big ledge which was recently encountered in the level the i recent lecent strike was made at a point about feet east and feet north of the station at the level and on a perpendicular would lie well under and at that point of mount oddie which slopes away to the east in the prospect work which was accomplished prior to striking the new ledge several minor veins were encountered and development on these might lead to the opening of big bodies of ore on one of them however drifting is now proceedings and at a distance of about twenty feet east from the crosscut the drift follows a stringer fifteen or eighteen inches wide that gives high grade values this drift is feet north of the station and 80 feet farther on in the cros crosscut the of the big ledge was struck A twenty eight foot cut was found liec necessary essary to reach the hanging wall and it exposes one of the finest bodies of ore ever opened up un in the district values permeate the entire ledge five feet on the hanging wall carrying high shipping values and the balance twenty three feet being of a healthy milling quality A few feet from the a drift has been started to the east and at t a point twenty five or thirty feet in a face of fine looking ore five feet wide shows itself it is the purpose of the management when more ground has been gained in this t rift to start a raise and with a view of de determining termIng n its extent the ledge is supposed to be the eastern end of the big and rich ledge which was cut near the foot station in the shaft but which apparently badly faulted and could not be found when it was sought for through the crosscut which runs directly north from the station the ore is somewhat different from that obtained in the upper levels of the mine in that it carries more sulphides sulp hides and is less oxidized it closely resembles the montana tonopah To tonopah extension and the north star and contains approximately the same values the trend of the ledge is nearly east and west and the dig is about 60 degrees to the north viewed from every point this strike in the belmont is the most important that has i taken place e in the district it has not only added very materially to the worth of the property in which it was made but it proves beyond the question of doubt that the system of rich veins which outcrop at the foot of and on the southwest slope of mount oddie do not ednd where the droppings crop pings cease but extend at least a half mile either way under the surface and how much more only devel development ca can n determine to satisfy himself of the correctness of this assertion the reader has only to consult one olle of the maps of the district and by starting from a point feet east of the desert queen shaft and measuring back to a point feet west of the grand giand trunk tonopah To extension company where the same character of ore is being worked on he will find the distance nearly a mile and as far as opened up almost every foot of the ledge contains ore whose lowest values are rich enough to make a handsome milling product |
