Show exhibits EXHIBITS AT THE STATE FAIR to the great disappointment of many mining men the mineral exhibit at the state fair last week was a mere makeshift vo no attention apparently was given to th this s d department e part ment or to the indus industry try that is the mainstay of utah the display was so meager as to cause a feeling of disgust on the part of the visitor the very few ore and mineral samples exhibited were not classified labeled or displayed to advantage A piece of ore carrying arsenic and was marked cinnabar cinn ibar and the only specimen with the name of exhibitor attached that of C B durst was a sample of petrified wood from bingham when one thinks of the magnificent mineral exhibits made at the state fair in bygone years one wonders how it happened that the mining industry this year should be disgraced by such a disgustingly poor display as that made by the fair association last week there is no doubt but that the county fairs have made a much better display and it is safe to presume that washington county made an exhibit that was tar its superior one exhibit that attracted a great deal of attention was that displayed by fairbanks morse co and colonel C P mason the companas comp anys local representative did himself proud in his exhibition of gasoline engine and pumps all in active operation and demonstrating the utility and economic workings of this class of machinery so well adapted to mining industrial and farming operations the clinton ellerbeck clay manufacturing company also had a fine assortment of its manufactured articles on exhibition included in the list being assayers crucibles cruci bles muffles capels firebrick fire brick fire tile etc the picture gallery of the state university and state school of mines was especially attractive and pleasing included in the interior views of the departments of the state school of mines beang oneff the ical appart atus room and also views of the mechanical laboratory the freshman drawing room the mineralogical museum the qualitative tive laboratory the dynamo laboratory assaying furnaces and machine shops the agricultural college at logan also had a splendid exhibit comprised principally of the handiwork of the students of this institution of learning the salt lake company also had an exhibit that attracted a great deal of attention not only because of the superiority perio rity of the goods displayed but because the display was characteristic of the enterprise of this popular establishment the fruit exhibit was hardly up to the usual average however the display of fruits nuts dates and figs together with dried fruits and preserves from washington county dixie was magnificent and was a splendid advertisement of the wonderful resources of this portion ot of the state |
