Show r the black forest producing bullion I 1 II 11 11 5 lei forty miles south of wells nevada on spruce mountain on the stage line between wells and cherry creek is the black forest mine owned by the black forest mining smelting smelling Sm elting company of which C M spence is the manager as well as one of the heaviest owners for years mr spence has pinned his faith on this valuable and promising property the black forest is just over the divide from the property of the latham mining company of salt lake city of which george L moats is manager the latham having been recently equipped with a concentrating plant which is now in successful operation on the black forest there are three distinct veins carrying very fine bodies of carbonate of lead ores in which the silver values run well while the ore is heavily smelter of the DI black aak forest mining smelting smelling Sm elting company at jasper jasp or are that it is proving a great success in treating the ores of that district and the time has now arrived when there is no longer A 9 doubt as to its merit last fall a successful run was made but its duration on account of a shortage of water was hardly sufficient to prove the adaptability of the smelter however the experimental stage has now passed and for several weeks the smelter has been doing excellent work and saving more of the silver and lead than was anticipated it would the smelter is now working about twenty two tons of ore per day making about ninety five bars of bullion every twenty four hours the bullion is remarkably mar kably free from bases carrying nothing but lead and silver mr C M spence the 24 0 a Q r az NEW the black forest mine spruce mountain as it looked afew years ago impregnated with oxide of iron in consequence of which the mine product is practically self fluxing flexing more than a year ago tho the mining review mentioned the fact that a small smelting smelling sm elting plant had been put in at the mine since which time but little has been heard regarding the success attending the untiring energy of manager spence in placing the property upon a substantial and paying basis judging however from recent reports from this section it will not be long now before the black forest will be rated as a regular breadwinner r and our readers who are acquainted with mr spence and with the magnificent mineral resources of this portion of nevada will read the following from the herald of wells nevada with pleasure the herald says all reports from the workings of the hustling manager of the property has developed plenty of water to keep the smelter running steadily and an eminently successful season is assured W mcrae is the metallurgist in charge of the smelter he is an allaround all around proficient mill and smelter man and to ills his care and ability is largely due the success of the present run john munson of wells is engaged in hauling the ore from the mine to the smelter a distance of about three and one half miles he uses a six and a four horse team and makes two round trips per day the s smelter was started up the last time on august ath and not a single hitch of any kind has occurred since that time since then 2430 bars of bullion have been and either shipped or are ready for shipment at the present increased prices of silver the value of lead and silver in the barsis bars is about equally divided |
