Show HALF THE NATIONAL DEBT the great cactus vein has been opened up to a depth of feet for a distance of feet along its strike and this development shows forty million dollars worth of ore the newhouse companas comp anys possessions cover a mile of the vein if this entire mile of the vein is as wide and rich as the portion opened it will yield worth of copper gold and silver above the level and at the same valuation it will yield over a billion dollars at the 1800 level enough to pay half of the national debt we believe mr newhouse is justified in claiming ownership of the greatest mine in the country milford times half the national debt to people of the east who are in the habit of counting pennies this statement may be beyond belief and it is hardly likely that one out of a hundred who read the above paragraph from the milford times will give any credence to the assertion and yet the statement is true the estimates having been made by experienced and competent mining engineers who have carefully inspected the cactus mine workings and who have measured ahe the ore bodies blocked out in this prospective bonanza if the cactus were located in any other country but utah the wildest kind of a craze would exist because of it almost every mining man in the state has known of I 1 the cactus for years but very few of them iad had any adequate of its extent and value and therefore for a quarter of a century it has been idle awaiting the advent of someone who could comprehend its magnitude and its promise for the future and who at the same time had the nerve and capital to handle it successfully for years it was owned by a french company and was under the management of professor joseph luce of salt lake city professor luce fully realized the immensity of this great copper property his mind could grasp the wonderful possibilities of this mine but his company was blind and despite his pleadings it would do nothing in the way of extensive development and finally let its copper gulch holdings go for a mere song sonk to samuel newhouse who now has in his possession a property that is not to be compared in value by any mining proposition in the west and it is doubtful as a coper property if its equal exists in this or any other country extensive development and exploration has been the order of the day with the cactus since it changed ownership less than three years ago and now it is claimed over forty millions are in sight in an area covering feet in depth and feet along the strike of the monster deposit for which this section is so justly noted forty million for mere surface development is a stem winder when it comes to the production of the precious metals and of this grand sum a fortune awaits the owner of the mine after all mining milling and other necessary expenses are deducted it if the deposit goes to the deep and there is every indication present of its permanency and continuity the mine can produce as easily as it can forty while as stated if the values hold to the 1800 foot level and the ore maintains its own on the strike of the vein throughout the entire length of the companas comp anys property a production of a billion dollars can be looked for or an amount equaling half of the national debt it is difficult to grasp the magnificence the wonderful possibilities of such a property as is the cactus much less the true meaning of the term a billion dollars forty million is big enough and a forty for ty million mine should satisfy the most greedy gr eedy the most avaricious avara cious and yet we have many such in utah and throughout the west mention of the cactus is made merely that people may know that in this intermountain country there are many opportunities offered for splendid investments that for almost a mere song mines and prospects may often be picked up which with development equipment and with intelligent operation will produce many millions for their owners at an expense of only thousands such results we hear of almost every day we have such mines in many of our mining camps and districts and our mountains are full of just such propositions many of them like the cactus have been begging for recognition at the hands of cap ital for now and years then one of odthe these is picked up and in due time we hear oi of another bonanza being added to the list of the great metal wealth producers of the th west no other industry offers such opportunities for the amassing of wealth maill are taking advantage of it more are ignoring it and can see no money in mining |
