Show important gold discovery di scover y the nines hines gilbert gold mines company owning a group of nine quartz locations on the middle fork of the american river near greenwood el dorado county california has recently made some very encouraging developments in gold quartz last april on the south bank of the river they put oft off a couple of shots in a large quartz boulder that has rested on the edge of the river for years the boulder being four feet in width and about three feet by eight feet other dimensions the broken quartz was rich in free gold yielding specimens A search was then made for the probable source of this boulder and a lucky hole was sunk on a bench about twenty five feet south of the river for after going down some twelve feet through loose dirt and broken rock and clay the hole fairly straddled a high grade vein of quartz running north and south and dipping east the ledge was three feet wide at three f feet deep and widening the ore taken from this hole showed well in specimens of leaf and coarse gold A cut or trench was then run south on this showing and at thirty feet f south the rock was richer and a sample of the rock in which no gold was visible assayed average sample expected to go 1000 at seventy feet south another sample of two pounds of rock from which all specimen rock was eliminated assayed and now at feet south the rock is richer than ever and at six feet deep on the ledge is twenty inches wide and widening A general sample of fifty pounds of ore from this point including specimens and all is being sent to the assayer for a test and the company expects it to go over 1000 gold per ton the ground and overburden is loose and cavey and from ten to twelve feet deep the company will continue trenching drenching tren ching south in hopes of getting into better ground as a face for a tunnel into the hill and for richer rock the bench upon which the discovery was made is fairly level reaching back some feet to the mountain where are located the tunnels of the company developing their large sulphide vein which averages over 10 per ton in gold water secured for milling purposes the company has secured by lease the hyatt ditch and water rights three miles of ditch and three miles of flume and are now placing the same in order for bringing water through to their ten stamp mill A telephone line just completed connects the mine with the long distance wires making communication easy in regard to the showing on the high grade vein experts say it is one of the best they ever seen or heard of and if it goes down will make a rich mine the mines are on the mother lode that extends from amador to grass valley and this formation gives every indication of depth and value |
