Show arl drilling all ng I 1 is s resumed in in 0 fallon fl field eld BY A J MOORE fallen nevada jan 12 the drillers drillars dr illers who had been working for months out in the field with scarce a chance to visit town have had their holiday season se ason and are back at work two companies have resumed drilling and two new rigs are known to be on the way in and others expected shortly the big 4 started their standard rig on J january a uary 2 with driller t in charge the bit is in a very hard formation which is thought by many to be the capping to an oil sand while progress is slow owing to the hard flinty formation the rig is keyed up for good work the bit is now dropping forty two strokes to the minute whereas about thirty six drops a minute has been the average with new bit and other parts of the rig in finest condition and repair good speed may be looked for as soon as the formation changes driller gregory has again taken charge of operations at the churchill county oil gas company well and is drilling by this time R W publicity man for the company is expected back this week he has placed a large block of churchill and also a block of golden west oil leasing company in and about crystal falls mich he writes that operations will soon begin on some part of the golden west holdings according to a wire received by C W kinney the associated drilling company of california shipped a rig a few days ago it is expected here any day and will be used to start a well on some one of the many holdings mr kinney is interested in in the southern part of the field va F A brown president of the medford oil company is here arranging for drilling operations on the south half of section 19 township 19 range 31 he has secured offices in the sanford building on center street this company is being financed mostly by capitalists of medford oregon the officers comprise joseph guyot james girton orvis coughlan and james reilly i R M carter resident indian agent relates an incident that happened a few days ago he had discovered what he thought was an heretofore unknown oil seep about one and one half miles west from the indian school he showed some of the oil to one of the older generation of indians the in dian looked at it grunted and said heep good axle grease it developed that the indian knew all about the little spring where the oil came from and informed mr carter that years ago when ox teams were the principal motive power with both indian and white man the oil from that spring was quite generally used for axle grease it was both efficient and cheap dr F E nichol has a lease on the ground on which the spring is located the straussberg syndicate completed their contract on the true vincill ranch and driller dark clark moved the rig over to the W A ranch where the syndicate has another lease in ten days a depth of over feet was made it is also reported that at the foot depth a stratum of oil sand was cut that carried considerable oil it has been the theory of nearly all oil men that somewhere in the fallon fallen district shallow wells would be opened the ranch is only two miles north of the city of fallon fallen and the opening of an oil well at that point certainly would cause excitement A B nichols and ed shafer are bringing in a combination rig which should arrive in fallon fallen within a week they will contract to drill on lands held under prospecting permits and have several such now under c consideration on R H moore of berkeley calif and 0 owner of the ranch on which the big 4 is drill iny came banfe up to superintend the several improvements prove ments being made on his ranch and incidentally ci to look over operations of the big k 4 he states that money conditions on the coast are being straightened out and as soon as the readjustment period is over money will be as plentiful as during last summer the commonwealth oil company received a prospecting permit last week this company headed by george F moore has been holding some valuable land south of where the diamond oil company is now drilling 0 |
