Show TO SHOOT WELL AT MOAB believing that the western allies well no I 1 on the maxwell lease can be made to produce at least sufficient oil for use as fuel for further drilling operations in the moab field says the grand county utah independent of the decision has been made to shoot the well at the two points where oil was encountered drilling oper one actions were suspended the last of the week and it is probable that the sands will be shot within the next week or so it is intended to place the first shot at al a depth of 1400 feet where a good flow of oil was en encountered countered at the time the drill penetrated the oil a flow estimated at eight or ten barrels a day was secured however the sand was of such fine grain that oil was only secured during the time the drill was pounding through it it is 13 believed that by shooting the sand will ie be opened up permitting the oil to flow it results are not obtained at the lower sand a second shot will be put in at a depth of 1175 feet where the first oil was brought in here the chances are declared to be exceptionally tio nally good for bringing in a substantial f low flow of oil at the time the oil was struck there were feet of water in the hole bole but in spite of this the oil showing was very good two or three weeks elapsed before the water was eased cased off but oil was in evidence only during the time the drill was in the sand this sand was also of a very fine grain through which the oil would not flow the extreme water pressure may also have driven the oil back into the sands anda and a powerful shot it is believed will open up the stratum and permit the oil to flow into the well it is the general consensus of opinion that the well was drilled into a fault and ana that the drill merely passed through the outer fringe of the sands the chances are extremely favorable according to geologists that a shot will fracture the formation sufficiently to open up the sands and bring na a good flow of oil |
